Under My April Moon

Sakharov is a metal project from Russia formed in 2013 by composer and guitarist Igor Sakharov, featuring Igor on guitars, bass and keyboards, Andrey Ishchenko (Arkona) on drums, and guest performances on vocals from Martin Steene (Iron Fire), Erik Blomkvist (Molten Trail), David Henriksson (Deep Sea) and Gustav Blide (Seven Thorns).

The album opens with the debut single release 'I Spit Your Bullets Out'. Guitar driven, European sounding power metal, this is a superb hard rocking heavy romp, that is quickly followed by the lighter, more rock than metal, 'Does It Shine OK?'. Catchy riffs and hooks and a sing a long chorus, this is very much a feel good song. Pace slows for the excellent 'Cold Winds Take Me Home' with soulful vocals, excellent guitars and definitely a song to raise your lighters to.

The next two songs would not be out of place on a Dragon Force album as both have immense pace and power, clean vocals and speed metal riffing. The title song 'Under My April Moon' and 'Into The Night' are two excellent examples of European speed/power metal. Now, if your girlfriend or wife is named Alice, you would not be wrong in dedicating the next song to her. 'Happy Birthday Alice' is an acoustic guitar driven ballad that conjures up images of a candle lit dinner in front of a roaring log fire as a clock strikes midnight.

'Break The Silence' stomps in to life as a mid tempo rocker with thunderous drums, foot stomping breakdowns and a bombastic chorus that will have you nodding your head in appreciation. 'Playing With Fire' is an absolute gem as it stomps majestically along, mid tempo, with a slightly darker attitude than any other song on the album. Closing the album is 'A New Day Without You', which for some may bring a tear to the eye, for others, a sense of moving on. Acoustically superb, well written and well sung.

Overall, a guitar driven hard rock album with speed/power metal, mid tempo hard rock and acoustic songs to cater for all tastes.
