The Secret Speech |
||||||
Saint Slaughter are a thrash metal band from the Republic Of Ireland who have to date released one E.P. 'Intravenosa' (2021), and one album 'The Secret Speech' (2024).
Known for their fierceness, ferocity and unapologetic aggressiveness, Saint Slaughter are set to blow the world to pieces with the bands debut album featuring ten immensely energetic and old school flavoured songs! I say old school, but there's plenty of modern input here to keep newer, older and younger fans alike very happy - and head banging hard too! So if you like your thrash raw and unforgiving, this is the album for you - an album that roars into life with the blistering 'White Death'. Loaded to the hilt with menace and aggression, 'White Death' is a hustling, bustling barrage of brutal thrash that owes much of its sound to German thrash rather than American - Saint Slaughter more like Kreator than Metallica!
And increasing the brutality level, 'Led To Treason' is a savage rampage of foot to the floor thrash with a mesmerising mix of fast and mid paced passages, the band effortlessly changing through the gears to deliver a wide array of thrash metal to an even wider array of thrashers! Across the albums first two songs, Saint Slaughter have delivered more variety than Heinz - the band continuing to spice things up with the groove metaller 'Lambs To The Slaughter'. And I use the term "groove metaller" fairly loosely here, for the speed of 'Lambs To The Slaughter' is phenomenal, much faster than you normally get with groove metal, yet there are flashes of ferocity littered throughout the song to stun. amaze and even frighten a few listeners - the band a devastating force of nature that's running wild, very wild indeed! 'Inglorious' maintains the albums aggression and menace, albeit more in your face than ever before, the band slamming listeners to the floor with immense force! And not just to the floor - right fucking through it too!
What a bruising ride 'The Secret Speech' has been so far! And we're not even half way through yet - 'Resist The System' dropping a gear or two but increasing the brutality to a more barbaric level! And if you're of a weak disposition, I'd advise against listening to this one, especially when the band roar through the gears to storm off at high velocity, the head bang ability shooting right through the fucking roof! The band are raging red hot right now, burning the ground underneath their feet as 'Waltz With The Devil' marches in with a more measured feel than any other song heard so far - the mid paced mid tempo thunder stomp pouring outta 'Waltz With The Devil' likely to shift planet Earth into a new orbit! And with more menace than ever before, Saint Slaughter stroll purposefully forth with 'Deep In Shadows' devastating everything and everyone standing in their way, the band bulldozing every town and city into rubble! I tell ya readers, the one place you don't wanna be right now is in front of Saint Slaughter, 'cause if you are, you're gonna get slaughtered! You have been warned!
And just what do you expect a song entitled "thrasher crash" is gonna sound like? Well expect no longer 'cause Saint Slaughter have the answer - 'Thrasher Crash' exploding into life with electrifying pace and power, the band breaking through the sound barrier with this one, every listener, thrasher, mosher and metalhead tearing their neck muscles to shreds in order just to keep up with the band in terms of head banging! Boy there's gonna be some busy Accident & Emergency services later - I say later, because there's still two more songs to come! The first of which 'We Were Born', takes the honour as the fastest song on offer, Saint Slaughter bringing a touch of the frenetic power of punk to the fore, seamlessly melding it with their root thrash metal sound! The band are rawer and more raucous here than anywhere else on 'The Secret Speech', the intensity of the album rising to new and uncharted heights as the final song comes roaring round the corner - and just a little bit o' prophetic advice for everyone from me, "if you hear Saint Slaughter coming and don't wanna get run over, ride like hell and get outta here". But if you're like me and simply love this style of thrash, let the band come and run me over - 'Ride Like Hell' less thrashy than everything heard previously, the band planting their feet firmly on the traditional heavy metal monitor for the albums final hurrah. The pace and power of 'Ride Like Hell' is incredible, the band spanning genres here to attract a very wide array of listeners!
Overall, a fast, frantic and frenetic thrash metal rampage featuring sky high high levels of aggression, menace and head bang ability.
