Are You Ready?/Calling To Space

(double A single)

Rock Goddess are an all female heavy metal band from the UK, formed in 1977 by the Turner sisters Jody (guitars and vocals) and Julie (drums). Making the band a three piece was Tracey Lamb (bass). The bands self titled debut album was released in 1983, boasting the hard rocking and anthemic 'Heavy Metal Rock 'N' Roll'. Their second album 'Hell Hath No Fury' was a more polished affair, with third album 'Young And Free' only ever released in France, and sadly, the band split up shortly after. In 2013, Rock Goddess reformed with the original line-up and began writing a new album. The new album 'Unfinished Business' never materialised, however a three song E.P. 'It's More Than Rock And Roll' was released in the summer of 2017.

With a new bass player, and a new album coming in 2019, Rock Goddess begin the next stage of their career by launching the double A sided single 'Are You Ready?/Calling To Space'. The lyrical content of 'Are You Ready?' is biographical, or is it autobiographical, or is it even philosophical...? Or is it all three...? Either way, it's a bold statement of where the band came from and where they're going, and they're asking their fans "are you ready? are you ready this time? are you ready?"

I for one am ready, in fact I have always been ready. I have been a fan of the band since the early eighties and cannot wait for the release of their new album. As for the single 'Are You Ready?', it is anthemic heavy metal at its very best, echoing every trait associated with the legendary NWOBHM evolution, of which Rock Goddess were an important part of, helping shape its sound and direction.

The second single, 'Calling To Space', is a much more retro sounding offering than the first. Thundering traditional heavy metal greets the listener as 'Calling To Space' marches on, tall and proud, flying the flag for great British heavy metal.

Overall, thundering and traditional heavy metal from one of the great bands of the NWOBHM evolution and a cracking appetiser for the bands forthcoming album.
