RF Force

RF Force are a heavy metal band from Brazil, releasing their self titled debut album in 2022...

...featuring ten songs of old school metal - including a song titled 'Old School Metal'. How fucking awesome is that! The Brazilian five piece from Sao Paolo have entered the worldwide metal scene at the traditional end of the genre, attempting to make a huge impact with their brand of old school heavy metal. And for an old school metal head (like myself), they're already off to a great start by having a song titled 'Old School Metal' - more on that later. 'Cause right here, right now, the album comes to life with the highly traditional metaller 'Fallen Angel'. Adopting the classic "foot on the monitor" pace, 'Fallen Angel' will plant smiles a mile wide on the faces of metal heads all around the world. And now for THAT song - 'Old School Metal'. Well, what can I say? It's old school metal down to a tee! The sound is classic, with the feel of the eighties glory days and bands such as Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Saxon. RF Force may be five and a half thousand miles away from the country that arguably invented heavy metal (that's the UK if anyone's wondering), but boy have they captured the aura of the eighties.

And for the first time the band pick up the pace, and thunder on with 'Flying Dogs'. The mosh pits that were warmed up with the opening two songs are now in full swing, as 'Flying Dogs' begins to furiously bang heads. An opening triple salvo to please the metal traditionalists, becomes a quadruple, as the band power on with the (much) heavier 'The Beast And The Hunter'. Harder hitting than anything heard so far, 'The Beast And The Hunter' adopts a more mid tempo pace, thundering forth like a steam roller at top speed - which is only 6 mph (10 km/h) for all you fact fans! Pace makes a welcome return to the album in the mighty shape of 'Creeps Of The World'. The fastest song heard so far, 'Creeps Of The World' is head bangingly addictive, and will have the mosh pits in a frenetic frenzy. This is fast paced, traditional heavy metal at its finest. Maintaining the traditional metal finery of the previous song, 'In The Heart And Mind' is another eighties sounding romp. Just close your eyes and let yourself drift back to a glorious time for metal, when - with just the one genre - heavy metal ruled the world! And it still does according to some sources...

...and with bands such as RF Force coming through, heavy metal will continue to rule the world for many years to come. Adopting a more melodic feel, 'Fighter' is one of those songs that effortlessly straddles the border between metal and rock. Fans of both genres will be attracted to this one, the band opening their sound up to a much wider audience. Maintaining their position on the border, 'Will You Remember' is much, much softer than anything heard previously. So soft in fact, that I think we're heading for a ballad! No - wait! At the one minute mark the band heavy things up and bring the hymn-like anthemic style of metal to the fore - a style that bands such as Manowar, Powerwolf, and Sabaton are crusaders of.

And whoa - what a bludgeoning riff! 'Beyond Life And Death' features a skull crushing sound that'll also test the strength of bones - the doom laden riffage the stuff of bands such as Black Sabbath and Dio. RF Force are roaming around every inch of the heavy metal genre to deliver a myriad of songs that feature every sound you'd expect to hear from the traditional style of metal. The bands varied and infectious debut album is a very attractive listen. Bringing the album to a close is the heavy bluster of 'Moab', displaying a hint of the majestic march of legends Iron Maiden. The bold nature of 'Moab' stands tall and proud, and is an impressive end to what has been a very impressive debut. Hopefully RF Force are not just a one album wonder, and we get to hear much more from them.

Overall, a classic sounding metal album featuring many traits of the traditional heavy metal genre.
