Odyssey

Release The Titans are a power metal band from Norway founded by ex Guardians Of Time guitarist Paul Olsen - 'Odyssey', is the bands debut album released in 2024.

Initially formed as a one man project, Release The Titans has grown into a full band featuring Geir Oivind Vagane (drums), Sebastian Madsen (guitar) and Iben Solberg (bass) alongside founder Olsen (vocals, guitar). The bands debut album is ten songs and forty two minutes of highly melodic power metal with incredible arrangements and orchestration - Release The Titans straddling the epic and glory genres of metal, all the while keeping one foot firmly planted in power metal territory! Launching the album with 'Dawning Of Man', the band set a stunning epic atmosphere across the first minute or so, progressing to impose a huge anthemic feel as it gets going proper, Release The Titans dipping into the symphonic metal genre to add a glorious dimension to the bands music...

...music that oozes a high infectious level that's gonna grab the attentions of a worldwide audience. 'Odyssey' continues on with the sub three minute romp 'World Ablaze' - chiming in as the fastest song heard so far, the band interweave progressive metal leanings here too, 'World Ablaze' changing gears and tempo from start to finish! And from the shortest to the longest song on 'Odyssey', 'Exodus' is a majestic swagger of classic sounding European power metal. Norway is recognised more for its black metal exports than power metal, Release The Titans choosing a different musical path to many of the country's metal bands, which is good for me as black metal isn't really my kinda thing. Power metal on the other hand most definitely is - 'Sole Survivor' roaring outta the blocks and racing down the motorvei at top speed. The heaviness is off the charts too, 'Sole Survivor' both the heaviest and fastest song heard so far, once again exhibiting progressive tendencies.

Release The Titans refuse to be pigeon holed into just the one genre of metal, the band spreading their wings to encompass three minimum - 'God Of War' increasing the pace of the album once more, settling into one helluva thunderstorm! A thunderstorm that is unbelievably infectious and immensely head bang-able, every listener everywhere rocking their head back and forth and raising clenched fists high in the air! Maintaining the overall heavy atmosphere of the album, 'Sea Of Tranquility' is another rampaging thunderstorm, but with added fire and brimstone - 'Odyssey' getting heavier and heavier the longer it runs. 'Horizons Beyond' is an up tempo, fast and fairly furious power metal romp. Packed with energy and oozing a sky high infectious level, 'Horizons Beyond' is a bold and bombastic barrage of power come traditional metal...

...a blend that's been prominent all album long, 'Cryosleep' returning the bands progressive leanings to the fore once more. Mellow and mid tempo, 'Cryosleep' is a pace changing instrumental that holds your attention from start to finish - attentions that are held tightly as 'Cygnus-X1' emanates an Iron Maiden-esque majesty, the metal legends famous "gallop" taking centre stage. Bringing the album to a close. 'Into The Unknown' is a mid tempo march of thunder filled power metal, Release The Titans striding tall and proud. Catchy and infectious, 'Into The Unknown' makes you wanna listen again, so go ahead and press that replay button and listen again!

Overall, a blend of traditional and power metal with progressive leanings, 'Odyssey' is an infectious and engaging debut album.
