Radiation Romeos

Radiation Romeos are a melodic hard rock band from the USA formed by former Warrior and Atomic Playboys singer Parramore 'Perry' McCarty. He has also fronted his own bands Perry 101, Metal Freqs and more recently Monster Traxx. Radiation Romeos released their self titled debut album in 2017.

Energetic, intense and electrifying is the only way to describe the opening song, the self titled 'Radiation Romeos'. The chorus line "we are Radiation Romeos, we are shining in the light" is like a breath of fresh air. The superb vocal talent that is Perry McCarty is expertly backed up by guitarist Dag Heyne, bass player Jogi Spittka and drummer Gereon Homann. 'Radiation Romeos' (the song) is hard hitting heavy rock so catchy that your head will be involuntarily nodding. And keep it nodding as 'Ocean Drive' rolls in all mellow and soulful before launching into some of the best AOR this side of bands such as Journey and 7HY. There is also a slight hint at the legendary Bon Jovi sound from the eighties, but for me 'Ocean Drive' is a song to be played on a summers day, driving in the countryside, heading to the coast for a weekend break with your loved one... With its heavy foot stomping rhythm and buzzing guitar sound 'Bad Bad Company' has a meaner and darker feel to it as it strides on. A throatier rasp of a vocal delivery and 'Bad Bad Company' will send a spine tingling chill down your back. 'Mystic Mountain' keeps the foot stomp rolling, with its bluesy feel and sharp edged guitar sound. After just four songs in, it's great to see that Radiation Romeos are not limiting themselves to one style of music, effortlessly crossing the boundaries of various genres.

Set your lighters to maximum and hold them high, for 'Like An Arrow' is a brilliant ballad. The chorus sparkles with passion, and has one hundred percent sing a long ability. The versatility of Perry as a vocalist is immense, his range as wide as the wing span of a jumbo jet. The swaggering 'Promised Land' is heavy, with a near doom style guitar riff. Solid and hard hitting, the story telling vibe set by 'Promised Land' is an addictive listen and will have you hooked till the very end. Throughout the album keyboards add atmosphere just at the right moment, the short intro to the bustling 'Castaways' is a perfect example. 'Castaways' builds into one of the best heavy rocking songs you'll hear this year. Addictive and catchy, you'll find yourself singing along to the chorus, tapping your feet and nodding your head in total appreciation of a great song. Southern Rock is hinted at with 'Ghost Town' strolling in, all bluesy and soulful. Expect visions of a saloon bar, beer bottles on tables, a dance floor full of locals, and Radiation Romeos strutting their stuff on the stage...

Heavy rock returns in glorious style with the awesomely powerful power ballad 'Til The End Of Time'. Well, maybe it's too heavy and rocky to be a ballad, but believe me when I say this is a corker of a love song that will swing the mood of any party towards a warm and loving vibe. Couples will cuddle and hold each other tight as 'Til The End Of Time' plays out... Buzzing guitars breath life into the mid tempo foot stomp 'On The Tight Rope'. Rocking harder than a boat in a storm on the high seas, 'On The Tight Rope' is classic hard rock that embodies everything that is great about the genre. The final song is a "cover version" of a song by Monster Traxx, the band that Perry created to deliver a musical style dedicated to Bon Scott era AC/DC. That album was released in 2014 with all songs written by and sung by Perry. 'Monstertraxx' is a thumping foot stomp of hard rock, heavily influenced by the famous AC/DC boogie sound.

Overall, a swaggering album of various musical styles from heavy rock to blues to ballad and Southern Rock, there is something here for everyone.
