Praetor |
||||||
Praetor are a thrash metal band from Luxembourg formed in 2019, releasing their self titled debut album in 2023.
Inspired by the legendary Bay Area thrash metal evolution of the eighties spearheaded by the "Big 4" of Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica and Slayer - Praetor deliver a no nonsense, aggression fuelled brand of thrash. The ten songs on offer fly by in just thirty six minutes, each and every one a crushing blend of savagery and melodious intent! Opening the album, 'No Return' is quickly into its stride, hammering listeners senses with a blistering barrage of high velocity thrash! And although the band are a long way from America, the sound of American thrash is highly evident - and that's not a bad thing! Hell no! If you're gonna sound like any style of thrash, you won't go far wrong with American.
Maintaining the albums immediate sit up and take notice attitude, the band move on with the blistering 'Move On', and a melodious chorus break that'll attract heavy metal fans to the bands soundscape! The urgency is incredible, 'Move On' pounding the ground with so much force it's opening great big fucking holes that stretch all the way to the earths core! And without dropping the immense intensity level, Praetor power on with 'Pitch Black', and a slight nod to the traditional heavy metal sound - the band bringing a touch of the iconic "foot on the monitor" feel to the fore. With brutality, savagery and aggression staples of great thrash metal, Praetor storm on with 'Mass Extinction' exhibiting all three in abundance, along with a much more venom fuelled vocal delivery than heard previously. I tell ya, the worldwide mosh pits are gonna go fucking crazy for this one!
With every song clocking in at four minutes or less, 'Praetor' is a fast moving album with a massive head bang ability, the band roaring on with 'Dormant Brain' adopting the mid tempo thrash metal stomp. I say mid tempo, but 'Dormant Brain' does feature a number of gear changes on its way to a conclusion. Is no corner of the thrash metal genre safe from the Luxembourg four-piece? Apparently not - the band continuing their wander with an increased level of energy, oomph and intent, 'Precious Time' forging a savage path across the land, leaving only desolation in its wake. The band are performing like laser guided missiles, devastating targets with a hundred percent accuracy, the album marching on with the savage 'Screens', violently smacking listeners round the head! The barrage of brutality emanating from 'Praetor' is just phenomenal, the band crushing skulls and snapping bones just for fun!
And with three songs still to go, there's no sign of the intensity, speed or aggression disappearing, the band storming on with 'Enemy', and the level of savagery just as high as it's always been! Praetor are a ferocious force of nature, devastating anything and everything standing in their way. There's an old phrase which I think is very appropriate right now - the band "taking no prisoners" with an uncompromising, unrelenting, and unforgiving barrage of thrash metal. And still the band pummel the listener, 'United' a fierce and very fast paced tirade of thrash, Praetor serving up a tremendous amount of head bang ability! And as the album roars on toward its final hurrah, the pace has been breathless, the run time of thirty six minutes has simply flown by! 'Distant Road' closes 'Praetor' with an unbroken streak of intensity, increasing the brutality and aggression levels one last time. Every thrasher around the world are gonna love this album, immediately placing it among the favourites in their playlists!
Overall, a crushing crescendo of aggression fuelled thrash, savagely banging the heads of every single metalhead.
