Olymp E.P.

Olymp are a heavy metal band from Germany formed in 2018, releasing their self titled E.P. in 2019.

The E.P. is the bands debut release and features four songs following the path of the traditional heavy metal style, adding touches of the rough and tough, resulting in a very harsh, and near thrash metal sound. Melding sounds that you'd hear on a Black Sabbath album, an Iron Maiden album, and a Grave Digger album, Olymp launch their E.P. with the thundering 'Lightning Eater'. Very much rooted in the traditional heavy metal soundscape, 'Lightning Eater' is highly energetic and head bangingly addictive. The bands vocalist has a style that is reminiscent of (the aforementioned) Grave Digger singer Chris Boltendahl, and his throaty, rasping growl.

With just four songs on offer, the E.P. is an incredible twenty four minutes in length, two songs stretching to the seven minute mark. The first, 'Fire And Fury' opens with a heavy atmospheric and menacing vibe, rumbling along at a mid to high tempo, with a definite foot on the monitor style feel. Add a chant style chorus and you'll soon be chanting "fire and fury" in the deepest throaty voice you can muster.

Although there is a huge traditional heavy metal feel littered all over the E.P. there is no high velocity galloping pace, just very heavy riffage synonymous with the iconic NWOBHM sound, sometimes bordering on the savage style to come out of the thrash metal genre. 'Shut Down' is a very heavy foot stomp that will nod heads hard and stamp feet harder. With the most menacing vocal delivery of all the songs on offer 'Shut Down' just may terrify you... The final song (and the second seven minute offering) 'The Messenger' is a long epic of atmosphere and Black Sabbath seventies era riffing. The feeling of a story telling journey, 'The Messenger' has touches of the melodic thrown in, and the occasional hint at pace, but overall 'The Messenger' is mid tempo, mid paced heavy metal.

Overall, heavy, mid tempo and plodding heavy metal, with a huge NWOBHM influence, Olymp offer four songs of rumbling traditional heavy metal.
