Hell Is Coming |
||||||
Officer X are a heavy metal & hard rock band from the USA releasing their debut album 'Hell Is Coming' in 2022.
Inspired by legendary metal bands such as Dio, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest, Officer X are a hard rocking heavy hitting hybrid of old school flavoured rock and metal - eight songs across a red hot thirty two minutes! Album opener 'Moon Man', is very quickly into its stride, featuring an echo of the legendary AC/DC boogie among its root rock and metal roots. With 'Moon Man' an energetic and bouncy intro to the bands debut album, second song 'The Red Prince' is much more of a mid tempo swagger - with a thundering foot stomp heavy enough to shudder the ground and shake buildings into ruins. The difference between the albums two opening songs is incredible, showing the band in two different lights, and raising the anticipation levels high as to what will come next!
Energy and bounciness return en force in the shape of 'Incandescent', displaying a much more melodic nature than either of the opening double. Officer X are proudly straddling the border of the hard rock and heavy metal genres, not really leaning either way - although back in the day, during the decade of evolution, the 1980's, the band would have been labelled as heavy metal...just like Def Leppard, Kiss, and even Bon Jovi were! But with songs like 'The City And The Stars' confirming rock status, Officer X bring forth balladry and hymn-like nuances that shouldn't ever appear on a metal album. Feel free to sway from side to side and raise your lighters high in the air to this one, for 'Lady Soledad' will definitely have you energetically nodding your head back and forth. Did I mention the band not leaning towards either rock or metal? Methinks I was wrong - Officer X do lean...from one to the other, swaying this way and that, keeping their audience guessing as to which direction they will wander in next.
Into old school heavy hitting hard rock territory occupied by seventies Kiss - 'Hellfire' a heavier sounding example of 'Love Gun'-era Kiss. Officer X running the gamut of rock and metals greatest names to make their debut very attractive. And venturing into the melodic rock arena, the band echo soft rock with 'Sam In Seven', casually striding down the local seven eleven on a Sunday morning. The album is brought to a close with the up tempo and highly energetic 'Officer'. Throbbing with thunderous rumblings, 'Officer' has touches of rock, metal, and Southern rock swagger, closing the album in great style. The debut release by Officer X has been varied and wide ranging, attractive to fans of both the hard rock and heavy metal styles of music, although if pushed for an answer one way or the other, I'd have to say Officer X favour rock more than metal.
Overall, a mix of rock and metal styles, Officer X offer a range of different sounding songs for fans of different genres.
