Nightbound E.P.

Nightbound are a heavy metal & hard rock band from Paraguay formed in 2018 releasing their self titled debut E.P. in 2019.

Five songs and twenty minutes, Nightbound impress with their debut release. The female fronted band from Paraguay are quickly into their stride with the explosive and fast paced opener 'Nightbound'. The similarity in sound to that of the iconic NWOBHM is remarkable and is further proof that even after forty years since its inception, the NWOBHM evolution is still inspiring bands today.

'Time Is On Your Side' maintains the bombastic furore, recreating a sound from the early eighties that resonates with bands such as Rock Goddess, Girlschool and Saxon. 'Time Is On Your Side' is classic and traditional heavy metal of the most infectious nature. Picking up the pace and thundering along at high velocity, 'No Mercy' is a swashbuckling blaze of buzzing guitars and rampaging rhythms. Get your heads banging hard as 'No Mercy' sets a blistering pace as it gallops on by.

According to the track list that was supplied, fourth song 'The Fighting Never Ends' has the word "rehearsal" in brackets after it, so I can only presume that is similar to a demo. And to be honest, yea, it does sound like a recording studio jam. It is bombastic and thunders on at a mid to high tempo, echoing everything that the NWOBHM sound has to offer. The final song on offer is a cover version of a Deep Purple song, 'Soldier Of Fortune', from the UK rock bands 1974 album 'Stormbringer'. Now, the original song has an official run time of three minutes and thirteen seconds, with this version by Nightbound over in just two minutes thirty five seconds, due to a slightly quicker pace, but largely due to Nightbound omitting most of the originals instrumental passages. This version though, still retains the atmospheric emotional aura and is a fairly good cover.

Overall, a bombastic and immediate debut offering from a young band, displaying all the trademarks and qualities of the iconic NWOBHM sound.
