Natthammer |

Natthammer are a heavy metal & hard rock band from Peru, formed by ex Mandragora singer Fatima Natthammer in 2017, releasing the E.P. 'Break The Steel' in the same year. Two singles were released in 2019, 'Lonely Heart' and 'Fly Away', followed by the bands first full length album (simply titled) 'Natthammer'.
Heavy hitting and punchy hard rock mixed with the pulsating rhythms of heavy metal, and you get some idea of what the debut album by Peruvian singer Fatima Natthammer sounds like. Add the observation that Fatima has a deep voice similar in style to Canadian metal queen Lee Aaron (check out 'Metal Queen' (1984), and 'Lee Aaron' (1987) to hear for yourselves), and I'm already liking this album - and it's only just begun. With nine songs across just thirty three minutes, the album is fairly short, but still manages to pack a weighty punch. Opener 'Fly Away' is a hustling, bustling thud, sitting on the fence between the rock and metal genres - falling like a stone into the heavy metal genre with 'Gypsy'. A fast paced gallop, 'Gypsy' is "foot on the monitor" styled heavy metal to get your head moving back forth.
'Black Rain' is more ballsy, more punchy, and more NWOBHM flavoured than either of the two opening songs. The buzzing guitar sound is straight out of the mid eighties NWOBHM hey day - an infectious sound that gets me drooling every time I hear it... 'Rock Me In Your Light' ups the ante - heavy yet melodic, catchy and addictive with an anthemic sing a long style chorus to give your singing voice a workout. 'Rock Me In Your Light' is by far and away the best song on offer - all other songs are joint second.
With the title 'Heaven' - wouldn't you expect a ballad? The answer would normally be a yes, but here you'll be greatly disappointed. 'Heaven' is a mid tempo melodic march that packs a very heavy punch, far heavier than the slap a ballad gives. Another song with a title you'd often associate with ballads 'Lonely Heart', is actually the heaviest song on offer, delivering the doom metal styled riffs of legends Black Sabbath and Dio. 'Still Alive' brings alive the sound of traditional heavy metal from the early eighties with bands such as Samson, Saxon and Raven. A glorious sound and most definitely a glorious time in the evolution of heavy metal - a time that thankfully has not been forgotten by a modern day band. One of the most infectious songs on the album is 'Torn'. A rumbling rhythm and infectious hooks, 'Torn' is another heavy yet melodic offering, complete with a catchy sing a long chorus. The final song on the album is a shortened, acoustic version of the heavy doom metal style 'Lonely Heart', with a not so deep vocal performance by Fatima.
Overall, a cracking mix of traditional heavy metal and hard rock, all littered with the essence of the iconic NWOBHM sound.
