The Last Sun |
||||||
Mynded are a thrash metal band from Germany formed in 2011 releasing their debut album 'Dead End Paradise' in 2015, and sophomore album 'The Last Sun' in 2024.
With a flair for aggressive, in your face and fast paced thrash, the German four-piece - Niko Lambrecht (guitar, vocals), Jonas Fischer (bass), Joachim Ferstl (drums) and Alexander Li (guitar) - roar into view with the bands new album featuring a sound not too dissimilar to a meld of thrash legends Anthrax, Exodus and Megadeth! 'The Last Sun' is forty seven minutes of foot to the floor bone snapping, skull crushing thrash with ten songs to test your head banging skills - 'Karma's Kiss' immediately into its stride devastating the landscape with consummate ease! Aggression fuelled and loaded with menace, Mynded are fierce here, slaying the airways with a ferocious intent, violently banging the head of every listener around the world.
With the album off to an absolute flyer, the band storm on with the faster paced 'The Imposter' - setting every mosh pit on fucking fire! Mynded have made a blistering impact with a simply stunning opening double salvo, the German outfit defiantly delivering ferocity and aggression in abundance - this is how thrash metal should sound! Maintaining the albums immense intensity level, 'Defiant' takes a more sedate approach to thrash, the kinda sedate pace that Megadeth is famed for. I tell ya readers, on the evidence of 'The Last Sun's first three songs, the album is gonna shake buildings and crumble walls with its phenomenal amount of energy, power and force - so be warned all sufferers of a nervous disposition, you may wanna get some painkillers close to hand! Mynded storm on with a meld of thrash and traditional metal, 'I, Apostate' planting one foot across the border wall into heavy metal territory, the band opening up their music to a much wider audience! An audience that's been rocking their heads back and forth since the album began...
...and are unlikely to stop either - 'The Last Sun' marching on with the ground shuddering 'Invincible', the energy level reaching new and uncharted heights! The band are a force of nature, trampling over everything and everyone standing in their way - there's just no stopping the unbridled aggression from the Bavarian four-piece! A foot stomping attitude descends upon the album in the shape of 'Neverlasting', the band changing through the gears to roar off at high velocity - 'Neverlasting' becoming a pace changing tempo changing menace riddled rampage! Yet among all the bands fierce menace and feisty aggression, there's an incredible melodious intent simmering just below the surface - Mynded attracting metallers as well as thrashers to their soundscape! And with a short mellow almost haunting intro, 'Delusions Of Lunacy' soon turns heavy - very heavy! The kinda heaviness thrash legends Slayer brought forth with 'South Of Heaven' (released in 1988) - Mynded striding on with shoulders back and head held high! And to be perfectly honest here, 'Delusions Of Lunacy' displays more metal styles than any other song on offer - the band sweeping across metal territory like an F5 tornado!
So batten down the hatches readers 'cause the storm ain't over yet - 'Bleak' hurtling in at over a hundred miles a fucking hour! Yet the band continue to swerve and weave all over thrash metal territory, 'Bleak' changing through the gears, but remaining mostly in top gear! My head hasn't stopped rocking since the album began - and I doubt yours has too, 'The Last Sun' offering head bang ability in abundance! And none more so than right now, 'Squire To King' maintaining the albums recent high velocity barrage - Mynded savagely bludgeoning listeners with a brutal thrash metal assault! An assault that comes to an end with the longest song on offer - 'Epilogue Of Existence' clocking in at a colossal eight and a half minutes in length! The band really mix it up here, delivering every style of metal in their vast arsenal - from aggression and ferocity, through foot stomping menace, to ground shuddering thunder, Mynded even include a (mid song) mellow passage! Yes readers, mellow! I know it's hard to believe, but it's right there sandwiched between brutal and savage!
Overall, an aggression fuelled romp of ferocious thrash with a huge melodious intent, 'The Last Sun' is gonna attract metallers as well as thrashers.
