World On Fire

Millennial Reign are a melodic power metal band from the USA formed in 2010 by guitarist Dave Harvey. To date, the band has released one E.P. 'Carry The Fire Again' (2021), and four full length albums - 'Millennial Reign' (2012), 'Carry The Fire' (2015), 'The Great Divide' (2018), and 'World On Fire' (2024).

Now whether by incredible coincidence or planned design, Millennial Reign have, across their twelve year career (so far), emerged from the studio every three years with a new record! I couldn't quite believe it myself, having to check a few times to ensure I had the dates correct! And I have - the four-piece metal band from Texas returning to the limelight with new album 'World On Fire', featuring eleven new songs across an immensely melodious forty five minutes. The line-up for the new album consists of founder, guitarist Dave Harvey, bassist Neil Bertrand, vocalist Tiffany Galchutt, and (new) drummer Pedro Cortes - the new album slow burning into life with the anticipative sub one minute instrumental 'Exousia'...

...proceeding to pummel listeners with thunderous intent courtesy of 'Bring Me To Life', the band hitting hard right from the off! Mid paced and full of energy, 'Bring Me To Life' is a melodic power metal swagger to grab the attentions of every single listener - Millennial Reign getting their new (fourth) album off to a flier! And with a little Middle Eastern flavour across the first few seconds, 'Wandering' takes on the mantle of an anthemic thunderstomp, the band shuddering the ground with immense force, 'World On Fire' maintaining, and actually increasing, the incredible infectious level it began with. The addictiveness pouring outta 'Wandering' is phenomenal, the American four piece attracting a myriad of metallers to the bands soundscape! A myriad of metallers that are gonna go fucking nuts over the sensational power and traditional heavy metal on offer - methinks I may quickly run out of superlatives to describe 'World On Fire', better dust of my Thesaurus eh! Marching majestically into sight, 'Trust' maintains the excellent beginning Millennial Reign have made, the infectious level crashing right through the fucking roof! Have the band just roared into contention for Album Of The Year? Maybe, just maybe!

And with no let up in the (albums) all consuming intensity, the pace of the album changes up a few gears, 'We Follow On' storming on with the pedal well and truly pressed to the metal - the classic sound of European power metal filling the air! And from an American band too - distance has no boundaries when it comes to metal inspiration, just ask all the NWOBHM sounding bands residing in every corner of the world! I tell ya listeners, Millennial Reign have got the mix just right, not putting a foot wrong since the album began - an album that strides on with increased elegance courtesy of the mid paced majesty of 'Eternity'. And beautiful vocals from the bands lead singer Galchutt too - a female singer creating one helluva difference to a bands sound. Now I'm a real sucker when it comes to a sensual female voice, Galchutt's oozing sensuality in abundance - but it takes more than just a great singer to create great heavy metal, you need to have great musicians too. And I'm glad to say that Millennial Reign have those as well - 'Parousia' a second, highly anticipative sub one minute instrumental...

...segueing into the hustling, bustling 'Crack The Eastern Sky', 'World On Fire' not losing any of its marvellous momentum! Momentum that started rolling with song one minute one - the melodic metal march coming straight off the top shelf! I tell ya readers, this is one album that's gonna be on playlists for a very long time to come, 'Tongues Of Fire' increasing speed and planting one "foot on the monitor" to adopt the iconic pose of heavy metal. The meld of traditional metal with the bands power metal roots is a magical one, and one that's gonna have every listener, fan and follower under Millennial Reign's spell forever - and we all know how long forever is! 'World On Fire' has simply gotten better and better since it began, the (albums) title song 'World On Fire' keeping the quicker pace of the previous song well and truly alive - the energy level rocketing off the fucking charts! All album long the band have been an unforgiving force of nature, delivering top notch melodic power metal, and I for one can't wait to press the replay button and listen again - but before I do, there's just one more song to go, the albums final hurrah, 'Onward To Victory'. And with just as much pace, power and catchiness as every other song on offer, 'World On Fire' (the album) is an "all killer no filler" release.

Overall, a superb march of infectious power metal, Millennial Reign have crafted one of the best melodic metal albums of the year.
