No Regrets

Marenna are a melodic AOR/hard rock band from Brazil formed in 2014 as a solo project by composer and vocalist Rodrigo Marenna. The band released the E.P. 'My Unconditional Faith' in 2015, with the album 'No More Regrets' released in 2016.

If you're looking for an AOR influenced hard rocking album to "get the party started", then you need look no further than the debut album by Marenna. Pulsating rhythms and infectious chorus lines, 'No Regrets' (the album) will keep you hooked from start to finish. 'Reason To Live' (and for all of those out there that thought this may be a Kiss cover, it isn't) kicks the album off in bombastic fashion, clean and clear vocals providing an easy listen and sing a long. Memorable hooks and catchy lyrics will bring a huge smile to your face, whetting your appetite for what is yet to come. 'Can't Let You Go' thunders along, invoking involuntary head nodding and foot stomping and all of a sudden you realise that this is the kinda music that evolved during the eighties, when, for some us (me included) grew up listening to...ah the good ol' days! And that is exactly the feeling you get while listening to this album. 'Never Surrender' is pure soft rock, the kind of rock that was doing the rounds back in the eighties. Smooth and effortless, 'Never Surrender' is a terrific reminder of how good the AOR/hard rock blend is.

Swishing and swaying 'Come Back' ambles on and on, striding gracefully through the airways. Founding member and driving force Rodrigo Marenna is an accomplished musician and with this album hitting hard, he has found a winning formula that will force Marenna into the AOR limelight. 'The Price' stumbles in, and just for a few moments, sounds like Def Leppard, the UK heavy rock icons, from their 'Hysteria' era. The pulsating and pounding rhythms hit hard and 'The Price' settles into a mid tempo pace. As the song progresses, I just can't get the Def Leppard similarity outta my mind... You'd expect a song with the title 'Fall In Love Again' to be a ballad, but on this occasion you would be totally and completely wrong. 'Fall In Love Again' is an up tempo, foot tapping and head nodding out and out rock song that is simply breath taking as it sails by. Vocals are superb throughout the album, and with the amount of experience and talent assembled, I would expect nothing less than a cracking album. Influenced by the American glam rock genre, 'About Love' is full of swagger as it strides majestically on. Heavy metal is very much my favourite genre of music, but every now and again, along comes an AOR/hard rock album that just takes your breath away...and honestly, this is the second one this year to have done just that.

The UK based melodic hard rock band 7HY totally wowed me with their (recently released) second album, that should there be a new category of music "eighties style AOR/hard rock revival", then 7HY and Marenna would both be the leading lights. The album continues with 'Forever' having party rock written all over it. From the addictive rhythm to the catchy chorus, 'Forever' is the best song on the album by the proverbial country mile. With only two songs left on the album, enter the customary ballad that appears on almost all Aor/hard rock releases these days. 'So Different' is the first, and only, opportunity on the album to get your lighters out and wave your arms in the air. Sadly, all good things come to an end, and so does this album, with the heavy thump that is the title song 'No Regrets'. Mid tempo and very hard hitting, 'No Regrets' rounds off a cracking album in superb style.

Overall, a superb collection of hard rocking AOR/hard rock, that is catchy, infectious and memorable, and will have you reaching for the replay button every time it ends.
