Wings Of Agony E.P. |
||||||
Lutharo are a melodic death metal band from Canada, originally forming in 2012 as Incarnadine, changing their name in 2014 to Lutharo, and releasing their debut E.P. 'Incarnadine' in 2015. A second E.P. 'Unleash The Beast' was released in 2018, with a third E.P. 'Wings Of Agony' released in 2020.
Vicious, brutal, menacing and beautiful - and that's just the bands lead singer Krista Shipperbottom... Oh, and the bands music is fairly vicious, brutal, menacing and beautiful too. Lutharo's brand of aggressive melodic death metal will send a shiver down the spine, Krista's vocals ranging from Angela Gossow style guttural howls, to a massively melodic power metal style - and all in the blink of a eye. The bands third E.P. in five years gently eases into life with the subtle and crescendo building start to 'Barren' before the band unleash a savage fury brutal enough to demolish buildings and decimate small towns. The guttural howls and growls of Krista are scary and frightening - but are also mixed with a clean and clear melodic style. An unexpected and pleasurable beginning...
...the E.P. moves swiftly on with the more up tempo and highly ferocious 'Diamond Black'. A terrifying ambience takes over as 'Diamond Black' brutally lays waste to the airways. The aggressive and fierce nature of this E.P. is astonishing, and I advise listeners of a nervous disposition to listen with the lights on. Trust me... 'Blood Lightning' is a little more melodic than what has gone before, with a cracking power metal vocal delivery. Appealing to a wider audience than just death metal fanatics, 'Blood Lightning' is full force heavy metal, with a snarling vocal performance by Krista, shelving the howls and growls for a few minutes.
'Will To Survive' is one of the fiercest songs on offer, the pummelling of the music is harsh, the vocals are growled and howled with merciless savagery - I love it! I'd never heard of Lutharo before, and to be honest melodic death metal isn't really my thing, but sometimes a little bit of growled savagery is a mind blower... Screaming vocals adorn the final song 'Wings Of Agony', as it takes flight and rockets off at high velocity. The growls are menacing, the music is rough and tough and Lutharo end this five song romp in stunning style with (in my opinion) the best song on the E.P.
Overall, heavy and menacing, terrifying and frightening, Lutharo deliver a five song extravaganza of blistering savagery, that may scare you just a little bit.
