Perseverance Of Sickness |
||||||
Lomor are a thrash metal band from Reunion formed in 2018, releasing their debut album 'Perseverance Of Sickness' in 2022.
Reunion - not a country I remember learning about when I was at school. And to be honest, if lessons didn't include a visit to the sports field with a foot, rugby, or cricket ball, I wasn't interested. But with thanks to an internet search, I now know that Reunion is an island in the Indian Ocean that is an overseas department and region of France, and an integral part of the French Republic. I guess the old saying "every day's a school day" rings very true as I've learned something new today. Twice actually - for I now have a new thrash metal band on my radar too! Lomor - a three piece band from Ravine des Cabris, Saint-Pierre - are influenced by bands such as Slayer, Testament, and Kreator, channelling all their aggression and angst into the bands debut album 'Perseverance Of Sickness'. Which actually opens with the title song 'Perseverance Of Sickness' - a slow burning intro followed by one of heaviest foot stomps you'll ever hear this year! Building a cacophony of sound, the band are in menacing mood, 'Perseverance Of Sickness' (the song) turning out to be a three minute instrumental...
...leading straight into 'The Great Defender', rampaging outta the gate like a pack of hungry wolves! The pace is incredible, the head bang ability phenomenal, and as an album opener 'The Great Defender' is a red hot scorcher. The intent, purpose and power are all at sky high levels, the band moving menacingly on with the sinister sounding foot stomper 'Broken Eternity' - and a throaty vocal growl that is vicious and loaded with venom! Two completely different styles of thrash across the albums opening two (three if you include the instrumental) songs, Lomor showing their prowess at roaming around the thrash metal genre. And the blistering speed shown during the mid-section of 'Broken Eternity' is simply mind blowing. Demonstrating lightning quick pace, the band storm on with 'Kanyar L'Enfer' setting new land speed records as it hurtles across the land. If the head bangers of the world weren't head banging before - they certainly will be now! The mosh pits going this way and that with walls and circles of death forming everywhere.
And there's just no stopping the band now they're on a roll - a fucking steam roller! 'Vicious Plan (Of Worm's Extermination)' oozing the crushing effect of a steam roller showing no mercy, as it flattens everything - and everyone - in its path. The air of devastation is strong, Lomor leaving only a desolate wasteland in their wake. And for the first time since the album began, the band enter the realms of melodic thrash with 'Brother In Black', reining in the savagery just a little bit, appealing to fans of traditional heavy metal to come and listen. And listen they will - for the pace and feel of 'Brother In Black' is more heavy metal in nature than anything heard so far. Don't get me wrong, it's still thrashy - it's just got that something for trad metal fans. Scary and sinister sound effects set 'Certificate Of Authority' on its way to become a blazing firestorm of fast paced thrash - and the return of sky high head bang ability. Necks are gonna be sore in the morning - moshers and head bangers going hell for leather, rocking their heads back and forth at an extreme rate of knots!
Adopting a fire and brimstone attitude, the band launch furiously into 'Constrained Humanity', savagely beating a path across the land. The extreme pace remains high as 'Constrained Humanity' bulldoze their way through small towns and villages, decimating every "gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse" - the band delivering total fucking destruction! 'Ecstatic' is a sub two minute mellow and serene passage, totally the opposite of 'Perseverance Of Sickness' (the album) up to this point, providing a breather before the albums final hurrah, the blazing 'Psykoz' - and a speed that'll have metalheads rocking their heads right off their fucking shoulders! The aggressive nature that's been littered throughout this album, is in a take no prisoners mood as 'Psykoz' hurtles to a conclusion.
Overall, thrash metal played with aggression, menace, and all out pace, 'Perseverance Of Sickness' is a blistering debut.
