Mountains Of Madness

Liquid Steel are a heavy metal band from Austria formed in 2009, releasing their debut album 'Fire In The Sky' in 2014. The bands sophomore album 'Midnight Chaser' emerged in 2016. Sharing a stage with the likes of Iced Earth, Diamond Head and Powerwolf, Liquid Steel continue to bring their style of melodic heavy metal to a worldwide audience. 2021 saw the release of the bands third album 'Mountains Of Madness'.

Featuring ten songs over forty seven minutes, Liquid Steel bring their blend of bombastic and highly energetic heavy metal to the masses - masses of fans that have waited five long years for the bands new album. And in the mighty shape of 'Mountains Of Madness', Liquid Steel don't disappoint. Kicking the album into life is the "foot on the monitor" galloper 'Traveller In Time'. Quickly into its stride, 'Traveller In Time' resonates with all the cliches associated with traditional heavy metal - fast paced, infectious, and highly melodic! I defy you not to be either head nodding or foot tapping by the time the chorus chimes in... Moving swiftly on, 'Victim Of The Night' moves the album into slightly heavier territory, the galloping heavy metal style still in full flight. And that sing a long able chorus is gonna be an in concert wow moment for sure. After just two songs in, Liquid Steel are on fire...

....heavy metal fire! With no let up in pace, 'Heavy Metal Fire' charges on with more oomph and bombast than the two previous songs combined. The title of "heavy metal fire" is ideal for an anthem - but 'Heavy Metal Fire' is not of the anthemic metal style, it's pure, unadulterated and fast paced, melodic heavy metal. Title song 'Mountains Of Madness' crashes the party with a much more mellow feel than anything that has gone before. But that mellowness does not hang around for long, giving way to a hustle and bustle swagger. although the chorus does return to some form of mellow playground. Maintaining the mellow ambience, acoustic guitars give life to 'Phoenix', proceeding to take flight in a storm of NWOBHM inspired riffage. The metal traditionalists are gonna love this album - with its mix of old school flavour and modern day trends. At over six minutes in length, 'Alpine Warrior' is the longest song on offer, its tension building intro creating a menacing atmosphere. As 'Alpine Warrior' stomps on, it is the most mid paced song heard so far, but loses nothing of the melodic intent that Liquid Steel have injected heavily into the album.

And without warning, a ferocious gallop breaks out - 'On The Run' the fastest song so far, scorching by in a flash. The blistering pace is gonna please the die hard head bangers of the world, and get the mosh pits moshing hard. Without breaking a sweat, Liquid Steel power on with the heavy hitting, hard rocking 'City Lights'. Planting one foot over the border into the hard rock genre, 'City Lights' is gonna appeal to both metal and rock fans. And whoa! Are Liquid Steel covering Motorhead? 'Nothing To Lose' has a title that sounds like Motorhead, not to mention the punkish riffing of the British legends - R.I.P. Lemmy - but after a quick search of the Motorhead back catalogue, it would appear that 'Nothing To Lose' is a Liquid Steel original. But boy the similarity is uncanny! 'Nothing To Lose' is a wild and raucous, early eighties influenced rock song. Final song on the album 'Thunder And Lightning' injects some different influences, namely Southern Rock and just a slight hint of the blues, and taking a progressive metal approach too.

Overall, a traditional heavy metal rush, encompassing all its traits, as well as a few surprises along the way. A very good album.
