Darkness

Legions Of The Night are a power metal band from Germany formed in 2020, releasing three albums to date - 'Sorrow Is The Cure' (2021), 'Hell' (2022), and 'Darkness' (2024).

Prolific power metallers Legions Of The Night return for their third album in just three years - the trio of guitarist Jens Faber (Dawn Of Destiny, Malefistum), drummer Philipp Bock (Dawn Of Destiny), and vocalist Henning Basse (Withering Scorn, ex Metalium, ex Firewind) emphatically making their mark on the worldwide metal scene! The bands new album 'Darkness', is eleven songs and fifty minutes of heavy, power metal that'll blow your fucking socks off! Legions Of The Night mean business...and business is good with album opener 'No Control' hitting harder than a heavyweight boxing champion - but only after an eerie first minute build up! Shuddering the ground with immense force, 'No Control' is gonna pummel the senses of every listener around the world - walls shaking under the sheer weight of the bombastic barrage from the German metallers! The energy level is sky fucking high as Legions Of The Night storm on with the equally heavy 'Rebirth', displaying just a little more melodious intent than 'No Control'. The albums first two songs have been nothing short of sensational...

...'Darkness' striding on with the title song 'Darkness'. And a mellow intro that would normally suggest an impending ballad, but Legions Of The Night have other ideas, pressing the pedal firmly to the metal at the one minute mark to roar down the autobahn at top speed! The band do change gear and tempo throughout 'Darkness' (the song) to keep every listener, fan and follower on their toes! The iconic sound of classic European power metal explodes outta the speakers as 'Hate' storms forth, bringing with it just a little hint of progressive metal! The kinda little hint that the band litter all over, not just this album, but previous albums too, capturing the attentions of a very wide audience indeed! Talk about roaming the metal landscape to deliver a myriad of styles to stun and amaze - 'One Moment' returning the mellow come ballad sound of earlier. This time for just twenty five seconds, 'One Moment' assuming a thunderous hustle and bustle feel, mixing it with majestic moments and a hymn-like swagger - is there no style of metal this band haven't got in their locker? Death and black probably, but I bet they'd give it a bloody good go!

Blistering pace lights up 'Darkness' (the album), 'Another Devil' speeding outta the blocks like a champion sprinter, the band engaging every metalhead to furiously head bang - mosh pits all over the world turning frenetic with total excitement oozing from every single vein in the body! What a fucking rush - 'Let The River Flow' displaying one of the bands most common threads. Most of the bands songs seem to feature short mellow intro's, Legions Of The Night almost every time turning the musical scales on their head to adopt a heavier sound - I say almost, for in the shape of 'Let The River Flow', the band are perched on the border wall between balladry and hymn-like swagger - listeners everywhere raising lighters high in the air! The variation of music on offer here has been very wide, the band catering, not just for metallers, but for rockers too! The energy level has been off the charts most of the time, and other times Legions Of The Night have reined it in, the band letting it run free as 'Better Men' marches into sight with shoulders back and head held high! The amount of majesty on show here is higher than heard anywhere else on the album - an album that has tightly grabbed every listener and not them go.

At just three minutes in length, 'The Witches Are Burning' is the shortest song on offer, yet is also the fastest and most furious - the band targeting every head banger around the world with an immense amount of head bang ability! And from the shortest to the longest, 'Leave Me' clocks in at six and a half minutes - that's six and a half minutes of incredible variation. From mellow beginnings through to an eerie build up, 'Leave Me' steadily grows in stature to become a weighty, anthemic come hymn-like stroll, Legions Of The Night delivering what would be one helluva show stopping finale. Feel free to stand and applaud 'Leave Me', it's the least it deserves - 'Darkness' (the album) actually coming to a close with 'I Don't See The Light'. And a lumbering heaviness not heard previously, the band weaving a little doom into their heavy come power metal roots - the vocals too displaying a frightening snarl! To say the sound of 'I Don't See The Light' was unexpected, may just be the biggest understatement of the year so far!

Overall, a myriad of metal styles to entertain and enthrall a worldwide audience, Legions Of The Night deliver an infectious and addictive album.
