King Zebra are a hard rock band from Switzerland formed in 2012, releasing their debut album 'Greatest Hits' in 2013, with the follow up 'Wild! Wild! Wild!' two years later. The band have undergone some line-up changes over years, including a replacement singer, and proceeded to release a number of singles throughout 2018. The band released the 'King Zebra' E.P. in 2019, and have toured with bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Uriah Heep, and Rose Tattoo.
The bands third album 'Survivors', was released in 2021, and features ten hard hitting and highly energetic hard rock anthems. Incorporating many elements from the eighties glory years for hard rock evolution, 'Survivors' features catchy riffs, meaningful lyrics, and an energy level higher than the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai!
The album explodes into life with the fast paced 'Under Destruction' - full of high energy and a bombastic boom bigger than a sonic boom! The classic sound of eighties hard rock fills the air as 'Under Destruction' gallops feverishly to a finish, setting the standard for what is about to follow...even more energy! 'She Don't Like My R 'n' R' maintains the energetic zip of the opener, but brings forth a more melodic style of hard rock. The infectious level of the opening double has achieved new heights, and I defy everyone to not be smiling and nodding their heads right now! Pace lights up the atmosphere with the heavy hitting and punchy 'Desperate'. Swinging from new heights of infectiousness, 'Desperate' is highly addictive, catchy as hell, and a fucking great romp.
With no let up in the energy levels, King Zebra power on the with hard hitting 'Wall Of Confusion', featuring, as a special guest, the stunning voice of Guernica Mancini from the Swiss hard rockers Thundermother. 'Wall Of Confusion' has gigantic amounts of oomph, and an addictive nature stronger than the Earth's gravitational pull! Sensational stuff... The overall catchy nature of the album hasn't relented once since it began, and in the shape of 'On The Run' it ain't going to either - 'On The Run' displaying an irresistibly breathless gallop. I dunno what's in the Swiss water, but by 'eck it's infected with something extraordinary. King Zebra are performing at the top of their game, producing a staggering slab of hard rock. Dropping the pace just a little, 'Rush' is harder and meaner than anything that has gone before, yet manages to retain the energy and oomph that's been cascading from this album like the water over the Angel Falls!
Blistering pace lights up the album, as 'Hot Cop Lady' comes storming outta the blocks and rocks hard - the classic sound of eighties glam metal filling the air, ala Motley Crue and Skid Row. 'Hot Cop Lady' is feverishly fast paced and head bang-able, the metal heads of the world suddenly feeling the urge to bang their heads. With its meaningful lyrics celebrating all of us who made it through the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020/21, with our music and freedom still intact, 'We're The Survivors' is a crescendo of big riffs, even bigger drums, and one helluva anthemic sing a long-able chorus. And the lavish eighties hard rocking feel is not over yet, 'We Are One' picking up the heaviness and foot stamping its way straight through the hard and heavy genres of rock. Probably the heaviest of all songs on offer, 'We Are One' still retains that exceptionally high infectious level King Zebra have layered all across the album. Bringing the album to a close, is the fast and furious hard rocker 'Be The Hunter' - the intensity of 'Survivors' remaining intact as King Zebra gallop to a finish without ever diverting into ballad territory.
Overall, a high intensity forty minute rampage through the hard rock genre, King Zebra deliver ten highly infectious rock anthems.
