Kilmara are a heavy metal band from Spain formed in 2003, releasing their debut album 'Haunting Dreams' in 2007. The bands second album 'Don't Fear The Wolf' was released in 2010, with their third album 'Love Songs And Other Nightmares' a 2014 release. With a new singer, Kilmara are set to release their fourth album in the summer of 2018.
Mid tempo, melodic and fairly heavy power metal, is one of the more accurate assertions of the musical direction of Spanish metallers Kilmara. Featuring new singer Daniel Ponce, and guest musicians keyboard player Jordi Longan (ex Ipsilon), guitarist Roland Grapow (ex Helloween, Masterplan) and singer Viktorie Surmova (Surmatra, Rosa Nocturna), the new album is an addictive fifty minute foray of both European and British styles of heavy metal. '...And Into The Realm' is a dark and spine tingling, cinematic sub one minute intro, leading directly into the pulsating opener 'Purging Flames'. With a heavy sound owing its origin more to British heavy metal than the European style, 'Purging Flames' will immediately get your head nodding and ignite an adrenalin rush. Foraging forwards, 'The Silent Guide' stands tall in both the hard rock and heavy metal genres, slugging it out between the two as it strides on at a mid tempo pace. Two songs in, two different styles, what will the third song have to offer...
...a mix of the two that's what! 'The End Of The World' offers a more energetic romp than the opening double, punching hard and rocking harder. Guitar legend Roland Grapow shows his prowess with an exquisite opening solo to 'My Haven'. Not only is Roland a superb guitarist, he is also a record producer, and has in fact produced, recorded, mixed and mastered this album! 'My Haven' is bullish and full of hustle and bustle as it plows forward, offering an ear tingling addictive chorus break. 'Principles Of Hatred' twangs its way into life, becoming one of the heaviest songs on offer as it aggressively foot stomps forward. Retaining the addictive nature of the album, 'Principles Of Hatred' is a heavy, hard head banger of a song. 'The Forge' maintains the aggressive and heavy style, punching hard as it pushes forward. The Spanish metallers manage to deliver the exact quantities of addictiveness and aggressiveness to make every song infectious and catchy...
...a catchiness that rises high as 'Disciples' storms in, picking up pace and powering on with intent, sounding much more like European power metal than any other song on offer. A hugely infectious and sing a long style chorus is a joy to, well, err, sing a long to! Slowing the pace and entering ballad territory, 'I Shall Rise Again' is mellow and features an exquisite vocal performance by Viktorie Surmova. Time for lighters to be raised high and sway from side to side as 'I Shall Rise Again' ambles on its way. Bringing the album to an end is the faster paced and very heavy NWOBHM sounding romp 'Out From The Darkness'. One of the best songs on the album, 'Out From The Darkness' is a last minute adrenalin rush as the album comes to a close.
Overall, an infectious heavy metal offering, blended with melodic power metal and hard rock, resulting in a catchy and addictive fifty minute journey.
