Kartzarot are a heavy metal & hard rock band from Spain formed in 1989, releasing two demos and performing frequently in the local area. The band split in 1999, with three original band members re-uniting in 2013, shortly to become a five piece band, releasing 'Arima Ez Da Galtzen' in 2015, a mix of re-recorded old songs and new ones.
If you're looking for catchy and infectious heavy metal and hard rock to gently head bang to, then you need look no further than Spanish outfit Kartzarot, and if English is your only language, then you're gonna have a hard time singing along...as the band sing every song in their native tongue. Doesn't take away any of the enjoyment from the album at all. An album that launches forth with the hard hitting and thunderous 'Patakon'. Blending in elements of AOR too, 'Patakon' is a hard rocking opening salvo that raises the ears to attention, pondering "hey, this ain't bad". Energy levels rise, along with the tempo, as 'Indartsuen Erosotasuna' storms into life, hitting even harder than the opening song. 'Indartsuen Erosotasuna' is a pulsating slab of very heavy hard rock.
'Stop Kaleratzeak' slows the pace, introducing a more mellow feel, ballad like in its delivery, with a superb vocal performance. Turning slowly into a power ballad 'Stop Kaleratzeak', picks up energy, returning to the hard rocking signature sound that Kartzarot deliver. Heavy metal and the sound of the traditional style raises its head high as 'Ume Gaixoak' thunders into life and chugs away relentlessly. Hints of the legendary NWOBHM sound is plastered all over 'Ume Gaixoak'. With seven songs on offer across forty minutes, the album is of good length, with plenty of music to listen to.
Waltzing full tilt into hard rocking AOR territory once again, 'Sehaska Kanta' glides in gently, placing one "foot on the monitor" as it picks up the intensity and romps forth with vigour. 'Sehaska Kanta' is most memorable for its cracking guitar solo. Picking up pace and racing along at high velocity, 'Zazpiak Bateginik' is a sparkling speed metal rampage. Guitars cut a savage path as the blistering pace threatens to break the sound barrier. Head bangers all around the world are gonna love this one, with heads just a blur as they vigorously rock back and forth. Bringing the album to a close is the lighters in the air ballad 'Zure Deia Watsapean'. A gentle sway from side to side is involuntary as 'Zure Deia Watsapean' gently glides on its way.
Overall, a hard hitting and catchy album, full of AOR tinged hard rock, with hints of heavy metal thrown in too.
