As Birth Becomes Life

Becomes Death E.P.

Jugular are a heavy metal band from Canada formed in 2006, releasing two demos - 'Metal For The Damned' (2006) and 'Unleash The Beast' (2009) - culminating in the E.P. 'The Devil Incarnated', released in 2009. The band went on hiatus in 2011, returning in 2018 with the six song E.P. 'As Birth Becomes Life Becomes Death'.

The E.P. crackles into life with the fiery Metallica influenced 'Revolution Around The Sun'. The riffage is straight outta the mid eighties Metallica song book, full of pace and aggression, scorching the Earth as it hurtles on by. 'Revolution Around The Sun' is infectious and immediate, setting the E.P. aglow with its high energy and up tempo rhythm. The six songs on offer are all done and dusted within twenty three minutes, but each one has pace, power and energy. 'Angel Of Darkness' adopts a more traditional feel, melodically marching on at a mid tempo pace, bordering close to the genres of hard rock and heavy rock.

The first single to be released off the E.P. 'And Into Dust' is full of urgency and up tempo energy. Head bangingly addictive, 'And Into Dust' is a cracking meld of traditional heavy metal, thrash and power metal. The chorus break is addictive and anthemic and will have fans singing along in their droves. Opening as though we are entering the genre of power balladry, 'There's A Body For The Soul (Unshackled Me)' glides in, all mellow and soulful, adopting the mid tempo foot stomping kind of thrash metal that Megadeth brought to the world. And trust me, 'There's A Body For The Soul (Unshackled Me)' is way too heavy to be a ballad, so keep those lighters in your pockets.

'The Passenger' is full of thrash metal riffery, and heavy hitting rhythms as it marches on its way. Mid tempo in every way, 'The Passenger' is catchy, melodic and a prime example of how thrash and traditional heavy metal can co exist at a mid tempo pace. Bringing the E.P. to a glorious close, is the up tempo, highly energetic and frenetic 'Dying To Be Alive'. And just like the first song 'Revolution Around The Sun', 'Dying To Be Alive' is hugely Metallica influenced - think 'Battery', and you'll be somewhere close. 'Dying To Be Alive' is a fast and furious gallop of all out thrash metal and a great way to bring the curtain down on the bands first release since their re-emergence.

Overall, a blistering and fast paced twenty three minutes of thrash influenced traditional heavy metal, full of energy, power and bombast.
