Born For Metal |
||||||
Immortalizer are a heavy metal band from Canada founded in 2016 by multi-instrumentalist Dave D.R. releasing the bands debut album 'Born For Metal' in 2023.
Inspired by some of the greatest names in metal and rock such as Motorhead, Judas Priest, Saxon, Iron Maiden, Dio, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Primal Fear, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, Megadeth, Metallica, Whitesnake, Deep Purple and Kiss (to name only a few), Dave began his musical career as a drummer, then taught himself to sing, play guitar, bass, and eventually keyboards. In 2020, he started working with singer Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear) to further develop his vocal abilities - the results of which can be heard on the album...
...an album that is fully loaded with ten highly infectious and head bang-able songs, played out over a fabulous fifty minutes. And featuring Ralf Scheepers as a guest vocalist too - more on that later. For right now, 'Born For Metal' thunders into life with the red hot scorching 'Out In The Streets' - featuring the power driven style of British heavy metal legends Judas Priest! The energy and oomph of 'Out In The Streets' is incredible, the head bang ability out of this world, and the infectious level hitting new heights never achieved before! A simply stunning start to the album, Immortalizer take the energy to a completely new level with the superb 'Cut Loose' - a ferociously fast paced and irresistibly heart pounding sizzler of a song. A simply red hot number, 'Cut Loose' has every attractable quality known to metalheads - and then some!
A phenomenal opening one-two, becomes a one two three with the anthemic 'We Were Born For Metal' - featuring Primal Fear singer Ralf Scheepers. With momentum now rolling like an unstoppable force, Immortalizer keep their foot well and truly on the accelerator pedal, blazing a fiery trail across the land, burning to a crisp anything and everything standing in their way. But for us fire resistant metalheads (like me) who are able to withstand extremely high temperatures - we yell at the band "is that all you've got". And the band answer with the barnstorming 'Lemmy', a tribute to Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister (R.I.P.) - frontman for the legendary metal band Motorhead. Lyrically, Dave D.R. has described Lemmy spot on - "a true rock 'n' roller", "a trailblazer", and "a crowd pleaser" just some of the great plaudits Dave has expressed. And I agree with every single one! Musically, 'Lemmy' is bouncy and buoyant, fast paced and head bang-able, infectious and catchy, and a melodic masterpiece of sensational sentiment.
Introducing a much more melodic approach than the energetic gusto of the album up to this point, 'Back In Time' is a head nodder that'll appeal to fans of hard rock as well as those of heavy metal - the band varying their sonic arsenal to attract a wide array of listeners. Don't get me wrong though, the intensity is still present - just turned down a little bit! And ramped right back up again for 'Gone To Hell' - a fast, furious, and aggressive rampage of head bang ability! Immortalizer turning the heat way up, once again scorching the Earth as they hurtle across the land. Better look out readers and listeners - you're gonna get burned!
Immortalizer truly are a force of nature, 'Born For Metal' bustling on with the traditional metaller 'Can't Let Go', and the resurgence of the melodic mastery heard earlier (on 'Back In Time') - the band planting one "foot on the monitor" and feeding their listeners, fans and followers a healthy diet of old school flavoured heavy metal. And this metalhead here, writing this review, is fucking hungry! Gimme more Immortalizer - gimme more... And more they do, with the self titled thumper 'The Immortalizer' satisfying my immediate craving! With intensity and energy levels restored to their sky high norm, 'Born For Metal' is purring like a very happy cat - a very happy cat indeed!
Increasing the pace and power, the band romp on with 'I'm Gone', providing the mosh pits with even more opportunity to wreck their necks - it must be fucking hell in there! Make a hole, I'm on my way! And with the final song just around the corner, 'Born For Metal' has been an absolute blast, highly addictive, a hundred percent head bang-able, and a spectacular debut release. And with a mellowness not heard anywhere else on the album, 'The Fallen' slow burns into life, gradually getting heavier, eventually turning into a majestic hymn-like anthem. The combination of emotion, reined in energy, and the slower tempo make for a show stopping finale to a very good album.
Overall, a barnstorming and highly energetic album of power driven heavy metal, 'Born For Metal' is a sensational release.
