In The Dead Of The Night

Hard Breakers are a hard rock band from Brazil, formed by former Riot Act singer and guitarist Arthur Appel. Recruiting musicians from the local area, he slowly created the band Hard Breakers and began playing live and writing songs for their debut album. There was a couple more line-up changes before the album 'This Is Hard Rock' was released in 2013. The bands second release was the seven song E.P. 'Still Breaking', with 2016 the year the bands second full length album was released.

The opening song on the new album is 'Circus', with the preceding intro 'Ladies And Gentleman', a spoken word passage invoking the vision of a circus ring master enticing the audience to come on in. As for the song 'Circus', it's bombastic and urgent, with a catchy rhythm. A barn storming start to the album, the title song 'In The Dead Of The Night', keeps the album moving, taking a more mid tempo approach. Sounding heavier, 'In The Dead Of The Night' is blunt and thunderous, brash and arrogant ... traits more associated with British hard rock. To coin an age old phrase "all hell breaks loose" with the raucous and racy 'Dirty Job'. Thundering along at a high tempo pace, pushing the boundaries of the heavy metal genre, there is an involuntary need to nod your head and stamp your feet. Catchy, hard rocking heavy rock at its most infectious.

All of a sudden, the energy and urgency disappears to be replaced by acoustics and keyboards as the ballad 'Forevermore' cascades in and simply glides through the airways, soulful vocals accompanying the swaying audience and sea of lighters. With its short sinister and moody intro, 'Thrill' changes its attitude and becomes the hardest edged, hard rock song on the album. Add a one hundred percent sing a long style chorus, 'Thrill' provides the listener with a feel good vibe and ample opportunity to foot stamp and head nod all night long. With its mild progressive feel and sombre intro, 'Diary Of An Honest Man' expands the boundaries of the bands musical prowess. A more snappy and aggressive vocal delivery compliments the more abrasive and in your face romp.

Enter one of the most powerful power ballads you're likely to hear this year...'Dream About You' echoes some of the great power ballads by legendary US band Aerosmith. Famed for their powerful, passionate and emotional power ballads, Aerosmith stand head and shoulders above every other band, and Hard Breakers pay respect to these icons with 'Dream About You'. Energy, intensity and aggression accompany the barn storming and ballsy 'Rock 'N' Roll'. Raucous and rampant, listen carefully and you'll detect both a blues and a Southern Rock influence. With its eighties/nineties sounding glam rock genre vibe, 'Wasted Days' is a guitar driven ballad, mellow in its delivery with a top notch vocal performance, that very much reminds me of 'Something To Believe In' by US icons Poison from their 1990 'Flesh & Blood' album. Prophetic in its title, the album comes to a close with the swash buckling and abrasive 'Turn It Up'. Thunderous and raucous, the chorus is gonna become a party anthem chant...so "turn it up" and party hard.

Overall, an album packed with hard edged hard rock, with a really great party rock and feel good vibe going on.
