Way Of The Accursed

Final Curse are a thrash metal band from the USA formed in 2006, citing Slayer, Pantera and Megadeth as major influences. The band released their debut album 'Constructing The Destructive' in 2008, with sophomore album 'Way Of The Accursed' emerging in 2012.

Across the albums ten songs and forty eight minutes, Final Curse's influences can clearly be heard, 'Way Of The Accursed' opening with the bludgeoning 'Corruptor Of Innocence'. The band are heavy here, very heavy, 'Corruptor Of Innocence' oozing a traditional heavy metal flavour among its immense thrash metal roots - 'Replace God...Conceal The Beast' taking a more up tempo, energetic path as Final Curse increase the head banging opportunity for every metalhead. And then with a dramatic change of sound, 'Biltmore' opens with a mellow acoustic guitar lead, venomous vocals kicking in after just thirty seconds! And we're back in the middle of thrash metal territory, 'Biltmore' progressing forward with aggression and angst in abundance. The opening threesome has wandered all over the thrash metal genre, Final Curse offering listeners a wide and varied sonic assault, an assault that remains in full force as 'Way Of The Accursed' roars on with the rumbling thunder of 'Rage Around Your Neck'...

...a brutal up tempo thrash metal swagger melded with a fire and brimstone attitude, 'Rage Around Your Neck' is the fastest song heard so far - not blistering all out pace, just the fastest! And that chorus break is so infectious and catchy, Final Curse taking a page out of heavy metals rule book to deliver a melodic sing along for every listener everywhere! Maintaining the recent increase in tempo, 'Reaper Of Justice' rattles along at a perfect pace for head banging, the mosh pits of the world getting more frenzied the longer 'Way Of The Accursed' runs! And battering the airways, 'Consume' hits hard with more menace and aggression than any other song heard previously, the band marching forth with a ground shuddering foot stomp that oozes a massive Pantera-ish groove! And for the first time since the album began, Final Curse dab the brakes for 'Christiansanity' to amble in with just as much, if not more groove than 'Consume'. Keeping the mighty foot stomping style of metal alive, the band are mean, moody and venomous.

Kind of sums up the whole atmosphere of 'Way Of The Accursed' - mean, moody and venomous a very good description of the bands sound too! Returning the heavier brutality heard earlier, 'Dethsemane' will rip your face off with total aggression - and laugh while doing so! Final Curse veer off to crossover land here, the likes of Mordred and Voivod springing immediately to mind - the four minute instrumental 'Ghostbones' starting light with tonnes of mellowness, building a crescendo of serenity to keep everyone's anticipation levels high for an impending gallop to ensue - the band actually maintaining the mellow flow all the way to 'Ghostbones' conclusion! Bringing the album to a close is the seven minute long 'Is There No Hope', opening with a wonderful two minute build-up, searing riffs splitting the airways as the band launch headlong into the fiery style of thrash heard everywhere else on the album. And just a quick mention surrounding the venomous vocal delivery here, eat your heart out Tom Araya!

Overall, a brutal display of thrash metal with a venomous vocal performance, 'Way Of The Accursed' is loaded with aggression and menace.
