Evil Comes |
||||||
Evil Conspiracy are a heavy metal band from Sweden formed in 2002. Dogged by numerous line-up changes during their first ten years, the band did manage to release four demos and tour heavily with bands such as Nocturnal Rites, Evergrey, Sabaton and Wolf. The bands first full length offering 'Prime Evil', was released in 2014, with their new album 'Evil Comes' a 2019 release.
The new album from Swedish metallers Evil Conspiracy features ten songs over a fifty minutes play time, and opens with (not a cover of the Saxon song of the same name) 'Dogs Of War'. Thunderous, ballsy and punchy, 'Dogs Of War' is heavy, heavy metal that relentlessly pounds the senses into submission. Prepare for a very heavy journey as Evil Conspiracy launch their sophomore album in cracking style. With its buzzing guitar sound a nod to the classic sound of the iconic NWOBHM sound, 'When Evil Comes To Town' doubles the intensity level and hits even harder than the opening song. 'We Rise' is a heavy hitting mid tempo foot stomp and shudders the ground with its intensity. After only just three songs, it's clear that Evil Conspiracy adopt a mid tempo, mid paced style of heavy metal that is very heavy and hits just as hard as a wrecking ball, or two... Did I just say mid paced? Blowing that presumption right out of the water, 'Demons On Speed' thunders in and strides on at a "foot on the monitor" gallop. Furious and fiery, 'Demons On Speed' is classic sounding heavy metal, delivered at a pace that will invoke vigorous head banging and the punching of the air with clenched fists.
The album features three songs that stretch past the six minute mark, the first of which, 'Endless Darkness', has traits resembling the epic longer songs that UK icons Iron Maiden are famous for. Mid tempo and very heavy, 'Endless Darkness' is menacing and atmospheric in equal measures, striding tall in the epic genre of heavy metal. With its swaggering rhythm and buzzing guitar riffage, 'Golgotha' reminds me of nineties The Almighty and their 'Crank And Deceit' album, more specifically the bands song 'Wrench'. Am now starting to regret, just a little, stating that Evil Conspiracy are delivering a mid paced album! 'Pagan Curse' is high velocity heavy metal delivered with an urgency and purpose, the likes of UK stalwarts Judas Priest have delivered for many years. Furious head banging and manic moshing will accompany 'Pagan Curse' from its start to its finish. What a song and definitely one of my favourites on the album.
The high velocity pace carries on in fine style with 'Violent Intent' causing chaos and mayhem among mosh pits everywhere. In the short space of just two songs, Evil Conspiracy have changed the overall feel of their album, delivering the classic sound of traditional heavy metal. The final songs on the album are the second and third six minutes plus offerings. The first of which is 'Resurrection', a high speed, highly energetic and frenetic gallop, that runs very close to stepping over the border into the thrash metal genre. 'Resurrection' is another favourite of mine and is the stuff that metal heads dreams are made of. Raise your fists high in the air and salute a belter of a song. 'Down To The Lord' is the albums final hurrah, and brings back the mid paced heavy stomp from earlier, probably even heavier than before, adding a massive melodic edge, turning 'Down To The Lord' into an anthemic, almost hymn like anthem.
Overall, a thunderous album of mid paced and high paced head bangers that will bang your head hard and send mosh pits into a frenzy.
