Higher And Higher

Eufory are a power metal band from Slovakia, formed in 2008 by drummer Miriama Hodonova, initially as a tribute band to play the songs of British hard rock band Def Leppard. The band progressed from playing covers to playing their own songs, and in 2014 recorded their first single 'From The Other World'. The bands debut album 'Flying Island Eufory' followed in 2015, with the band going on tour in support of it. 2018 will see the release of the bands second album 'Higher And Higher'.

Death, thrash and extreme metal appear to be the most popular heavy metal genres to emerge from Slovakia, but in the shape of Eufory, power metal is now making its presence known. The band celebrate their tenth year in existence with the release of their second album 'Higher And Higher', which is a profound prophetic statement of their future intent. Eufory deliver mid tempo melodic power metal, with the occasional injection of pace. The album glides in on the back of an effects laden mellow intro, building to a crescendo as 'Dragon Hearts' comes to life in a furious flurry of rampant guitars. Immediately infectious, 'Dragon Hearts' has a catchy sing a long chorus, hooking the listener to keep their attention for the next forty five minutes. Louder is how you should be listening to this album, and it's with no coincidence that the second song is 'Louder'. A much heavier offering than the opening salvo, 'Louder' has twice the infectiousness and a chant along style chorus.

Eufory have taken onboard everything that the legendary European style of power metal has given the world, and injected a little of their own flavour too. With a sinister, spine tingling opening, 'Karmic Eyes' is a menacing mid tempo foot stomp. Heavy and lumbering, 'Karmic Eyes' hints at the hard rock genre as it strolls on by. 'What A Shame!' pulverises the airways mercilessly as the vicious guitars cut a savage path, as thunderous and pounding take over the album. Up tempo and full of energy, 'What A Shame!' is head bangingly addictive. Chiming in at over six minutes in length, 'On A Pyre' has parallels with some of the epic longer songs that British stalwarts Iron Maiden are famous for. Both tense and emphatic, 'On A Pyre' is a majestic stroll of mid tempo, hard hitting heavy metal... Power metal returns to the album in blistering style as 'Dancing Star' races off at high speed, bringing forth comparisons with iconic power metal bands Helloween and Primal Fear. Eufory have excelled with 'Dancing Star', a perfect example of how power metal should be...

Without stopping for a breather, the album powers on emphatically with the barn storming bluff and bluster of 'Soldier From Beyond'. The melodic mid tempo pace that Eufory run at is epic, verging on the climactic, with 'Soldier From Beyond' a song to induce smiles from fans all around the world. At first glance down the track list, my thought when I saw 'I Want Out' was, "a Helloween cover"...but no, it's not. This 'I Want Out' is a blisteringly fast paced romp, scorching guitars and thundering drums giving the best head banging opportunity the album has to offer. A cracking romp, 'I Want Out' is a highlight off the album and a must play song in a live arena. Bringing the album to a close is a cover of 'One More Fucking Time' by legendary British band Motorhead (from their 2000 album 'We Are Motorhead'). Eufory keep their version at the same pace as the original, and really do the song justice with their interpretation.

Overall, melodic power metal in a similar vein to greats such as Helloween and Primal Fear.
