Trapped In The City

Electric Shock are a heavy metal & hard rock band from France formed in 2011 who released their debut E.P. in 2013. Their second release, the six song mini album 'Burn Out', was released in 2016, and in 2019, the band released their first full length album 'Trapped In The City'.

Moving their sound away from the hard rocking and bombastic 2016 release 'Burn Out', Electric Shock now stand more in the heavy metal genre than they do the hard rock one. Their debut full length offering is a glorious gallop of fast paced yet melodic songs that will have you head banging and throwing the horns from start to finish. A relatively short album compared to most modern day releases, 'Trapped In The City' is forty minutes in length, with eight songs on offer. The albums opener, 'Knife (In The Pocket)' is quickly into its stride, echoing the sound of the classic, the great, the iconic, NWOBHM evolution. The buzz style guitar sound, so synonymous with the NWOBHM, is in full flight as 'Knife (In The Pocket)' gallops on by. 'Snake Boots' is energetic, frenetic and bombastic in equal measures. Catchy and infectious, 'Snake Boots' is all hustle and bustle as it swaggers on, head bangingly addictive, and with its chant style chorus "snake boots" - a definite fans favourite scream moment.

Electric Shock have progressed from their previous release, turning heavier and more aggressive, the album thundering on with the ballsy 'Trapped In The City'. Heavy hitting and punchy, 'Trapped In The City' nods its head toward the early eighties NWOBHM sound, the evolving sound that bands such as Angel Witch and Raven were pioneering. Electric Shock may be a French band, but their influence here is most definitely a British one... 'One Night Stand' picks up the pace and gallops on with purpose, vocals screaming and guitars blazing. The anthemic chant style chorus "one night stand" is gonna be another fans favourite sing a long moment. What Electric Shock have done, is take a long read of the Iron Maiden playbook - you know the one, galloping rhythms, catchy melodies and sing a long style choruses.

Picking up the pace and charging ahead like a stampeding herd of rhino, 'Motorbreaker' is punkish in attitude, and most definitely shares similarities with the legendary Motorhead sound. Full on and in your face, 'Motorbreaker' thunders at speed, shuddering the ground it races across, demolishing anything and everything that gets in its way. 'Rock 'N' Roll Overdose' is a monster melodic march, the nearest the album gets to the hard rocking sound of the bands previous release. Maintaining the albums catchy and infectious nature, 'Rock 'N' Roll Overdose' is a head nodder, a foot tapper, a smile inducer, and places one foot in the party anthem genre. The awesome buzz guitar sound of the iconic NWOBHM leads the way with 'Sticky Lips' chugging its way into life, striding on at a mid tempo heavy stomp. The album is brought to a close with the eight minutes plus epic 'Hard Night'. Another melodic heavy metal monster, Electric Shock deliver a mid paced yet energetic NWOBHM anthem. The influence of the iconic NWOBHM sound on 'Trapped In The City' (the album) is undeniable, making this a great offering for fans of the legendary NWOBHM genre.

Overall, a rampant and raucous romp of NWOBHM thunder, with touches of the melodic and hard rock styles of music.
