Dangerous Species

Draghoria are a thrash metal band from the USA formed in 2013, releasing two albums and two E.P.'s to date - 'Portal To Extinction' (2016), 'Portal To Extinction' E.P. (2017), 'Thrash A.D.' E.P. (2019), and 'Dangerous Species', released in 2022...

...featuring nine songs of blistering thrash metal, reminiscent of the relentless high velocity onslaught of thrash legends Over Kill. Add a dash of Testament too - and there you have the root sound of Draghoria. All nine songs fly by in a little over half an hour, with the title song 'Dangerous Species' exploding outta the blocks with devastating pace and power. The urgency of 'Dangerous Species' (the song) is incredible, the band setting an electrifying standard for their new album - the mix of Overkill and Testament clearly evident. And with two of the greatest ever thrash metal bands as inspiration, Draghoria storm on with the heavier 'Terror Hypnosis', bringing a meaner and more menacing feel to the album. The aggressive vocals are terrifying, 'Terror Hypnosis' thundering forth with attitude. What an opening double salvo to the new album!

Draghoria appeared on my radar three years ago with a breathless barrage of brutal thrash - and it's been a long wait for the next instalment. With a mellower intro leading to a devastating punch, 'Murder Nation' delivers the same kinda impact that Metallica's 'Battery' did back in 1986! The pace and power of 'Murder Nation' is phenomenal, the band taking the melodic thrash metal style of bands like Annihilator, Flotsam And Jetsam, and Death Angel to the next level - a level that crushes, kills, and demolishes everything in sight! The intensity of 'Dangerous Species' (the album) is incredible, and doesn't look like slipping anytime soon - 'Deaducation' the next thrash metal tornado from the American outfit. And a more Megadeth style of aggression and attitude too! 'Deaducation' is heavy, very heavy, full of menace, and a more sinister vibe than anything heard so far.

And your expectations of what a song will sound like having the title 'Hate Machine', are spot on! Aggressive, attitude laden, and very fast - 'Hate Machine' a thundering thrash metal tsunami of immense proportions. It's like Draghoria have been wound up very tightly, and are now unravelling with the biggest barrage of brutality imaginable! A barrage that is far from over, the album steaming on with 'Within Seconds Of Death', the level of intensity as high now as when 'Dangerous Species' (the album) began. The band are a devastating force of nature, leaving only desolation in their wake.

The most melodic thrash on the album takes centre stage - 'Agonist' blending traditional heavy metal elements with Draghoria's root sound. A root sound that is a solid base of fast paced thrash, as defined by 'Agonist's incredible acceleration over the final forty seconds. Simply superb! Landing firmly back in the middle of the thrash metal genre, 'Blind Eye' emphatically returns the bands aggression and pace, hurtling forth like the Japanese bullet train - keeping the high intensity level very high! Bringing a very good album to a close, Draghoria return the menace of Megadeth blended with the speed of Overkill for one last hurrah - '-O- (Life's Blood)' a barnstorming end to a breath taking album of full on and in your face thrash. If you want aggression, attitude and head bang ability, go get 'Dangerous Species'. You won't be disappointed.

Overall, a top notch torrent of aggression and brutality, 'Dangerous Species' is an all out avalanche of terrific thrash metal.
