Creatures are a heavy metal band from Brazil formed in 2019 by guitarist Mateus Cantaleano, and vocalist Roberto Scienza. The band released two singles in 2020 - 'Dressed To Die' and 'Lightning In My Eyes' - before their debut self titled album emerged in 2021.
Featuring a sound that can only be described as a meld of metal and rock, similar to bands such as Motley Crue and Dokken, the bands debut is an energetic roller coaster of highly infectious, catchy, and memorable songs. Getting the album underway in a blaze of scorching energy is 'Children Of The Moon' - a pulsating heavy hitter that just oozes punch. The ballsy opener is quickly followed by the equally energetic 'Heart Attack'. A bit more up tempo, as well as a lot more raucous, 'Heart Attack' has the pizzazz of mid eighties glam/sleaze metal.
First single released 'Dressed To Die', is faster paced than either of the two opening songs, attacking the senses directly from the traditional heavy metal zone. The melodious intent Creatures weaves in to all of their songs is infectious, and will hook fans of both metal and rock. Dropping the pace of the album so far, 'Nothing Lasts Forever' is a bombastic blast of old school glam - bands such as Ratt, Slaughter, Cinderella, and Motley Crue immediately spring to mind. South American metal bands usually opt for the extreme or thrash metal sound, so to find a band willing to take on traditional metal/rock is definitely a break from the norm.
Maintaining the albums recent slower tempo 'A Knife Into My Heart' proceeds to pound the ballad path - for about the first minute! Then a glorious NWOBHM guitar riff ignites the touch paper, and 'A Knife Into My Heart' is up and running, pounding the ground with a shuddering intensity, Creatures delivering one of the albums major highlights. And the intensity continues with the heavy hitting, yet massively melodic 'End Of The Line'. Catchy as hell and infectious to the max, the blistering guitars are an aural pleasure, as 'End Of The Line' turns out to be an instrumental - well more of a thundering gallop really, minus any vocals.
The bands second single 'Lightning In My Eyes', is the most NWOBHM styled song on offer. The glorious eighties metal sound rises higher than ever, as Creatures recreate a forty year old sound - a sound that was pioneered by legendary bands such as Samson, Angel Witch, and Raven. What an effort! And all too soon the final song is here - the last half hour has gone by way too quickly! 'Satan's Finest' is the fastest song on offer, scorching by at a ferocious pace, giving the head bangers of the world the best opportunity for vigorous head banging. What a glorious end to a glorious album.
Overall, the iconic sound of traditional metal/rock blazes red hot over eight highly energetic songs.
