Conjuring Fate are a heavy metal band from the UK formed in 2005 by guitarist Phil Horner and vocalist Tommy Daly. Blending the traditional style of classic heavy metal with the European power metal sound, the band released the three song E.P. 'House On Haunted Hill' in 2014, followed three years later by their debut full length album 'Valley Of Shadows'. The band have toured plenty, supporting bands such as Diamond Head, Grim Reaper and DragonForce. 2019 saw the release of the bands second album 'Curse Of The Fallen'.
Conjuring Fate fly the flag of British heavy metal very high, and with their latest release, the flag is flying higher - and stronger - than ever before. 'Curse Of The Fallen' is loaded with ten songs across its forty two minutes play time, every one keeping the sound of the iconic NWOBHM very much alive. Launching the album is the one and a half minute eerie and fairly haunting intro 'The Premonition', building to a scary crescendo for 'Burn The Witch' to come crashing down like the proverbial tonne of bricks. The opening guitar riff smacks of NWOBHM essence, as does the pulsating and chugging rhythm. 'Burn The Witch' is clearly British heavy metal, echoing all traits associated with the traditional sound. Upping the tempo and galloping forward, 'Voodoo Wrath' is head bangingly addictive and highly melodic. Fans of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Saxon will be drooling profusely at the glorious and iconic NWOBHM experience that Conjuring Fate are serving up.
And the experience continues with the blistering 'Midnight Skies' - a fast paced and all out "foot on the monitor" styled romp. After just three songs, all of which deliver clean and clear vocals, it's great to see, or rather hear, that the future of British heavy metal is in safe hands. The pounding, the pummelling, the riffing, the rhythms, it's all highly infectious and addictive. Bringing a heavier feel to the album, but retaining all traits British, 'Journeys End' moves forward with a mild touch of menace, and the most sing a long able chorus heard so far. And what an aura 'Daughter Of The Everglades' shines on the album. Highly melodic and placing one foot in the hard rock genre, 'Daughter Of The Everglades' is a happy mood inducing hard rocker to get everyone singing, jumping or moshing - or whatever happens to be your preference in showing your appreciation for an excellent song.
Galloping in and galloping on, 'Night Of The Knives' adopts a mid tempo heavy chug as it proceeds to become the heaviest offering on the album so far. Conjuring Fate have proved their adeptness at varying styles of heavy metal, all the time remaining true to the spirit of the NWOBHM. Pace and power is returned to the album with 'No Escape'. Thundering on at a head bangingly furious pace, 'No Escape' is catchy with a cracking sing a long style chorus. Picking up the pace to become a fast and furious chugger of heavy proportions, 'Children Of The Night' is the most aggressive, menacing and scary of all the songs on offer. Along with its darker feel, 'Children Of The Night' is definitely gonna scare a few listeners - just a little... Final song on the album is 'Ultimate Sin' - the fastest and most rampant song the album has to offer, bringing the curtain down on a wonderful journey of some of the best NWOBHM you're ever likely to hear. The pace and power of the heavy metal on 'Curse Of The Fallen' has been intense, and unrelenting from start to finish.
Overall, a glorious journey of traditional heavy metal, resonating with NWOBHM nuances, 'Curse Of The Fallen' is classic sounding, British heavy metal.
