Concept Project is an Italian based rock and metal band founded by Ibridoma guitarist Marco Vitali - the band releasing two albums, 'Concept Project' and '2'...

...and it's '2' that I'm gonna be focusing on here! Guitarist, composer and teacher Vitali formed Concept Project with a vision to deliver a unique blend of rock and metal fused with elements from a number of other musical genres - genres such as blues, rock 'n' roll, funk and even jazz! The bands debut album was an instrumental affair, whereas sophomore album '2', introduced vocals - and not vocals by just the one singer either! Vitali enlisted the vocal talents of a number of singers, along with a whole host of guest performers too - the bands line-up boasting an incredible array of musicians!

Performing all instruments is Vitali himself, along with the following guest contributions...

Ruglud (In Lacrimaes Et Dolor) - drums
Steve Volta (Perpetual Fire) - guitars
Ivan Perugini (Esgaroth) - vocals
Christian Bartolacci (Ibridoma, Scala Mercalli) - vocals
Roby Beccalli (Perpetual Fire) - vocals
Francesca Bonvini (Puff Purple) - vocals
Blaze Bayley (Wolfsbane, ex Iron Maiden) - vocals
Gianluca Ferro (Arkhe, Doomsword, Heart Of The Sun) - guitars
Theodore Ziras (Hand Of God, Hybrid, Ice Divine) - guitars
Daniele Ciabocco (Crehated) - synthesizer
Stefania Salladini (Natisfea, Antagonism) - vocals
...and other members of the metal bands Mercuria and Ibirdoma.

What a line-up! And as for the album itself - '2' features nine songs across thirty two minutes! That's thirty two minutes of more variation than a pack of Revels, a tin of Quality Street, and flavours by Heinz - Concept Project offering something for every rocker and metaller on the planet!

Yet for all the varied influences Concept Project have, '2' opens with the traditional metaller 'Victory' - the band quickly into their stride, powering forth with pace and purpose. The iconic guitar tone from the eighties NWOBHM evolution is highly evident, 'Victory' appealing to old, young and new fans alike. 'Angel' maintains the albums bombastic start, veering much nearer to the hard rock genre than the (album) opener, the infectious level rising right through the roof as Concept Project launch the first of two female sung songs, 'Find The Light' planting a whole new dimension on '2's sound! Punk-ish, punchy, and featuring a little o' the blues, 'Find The Light' continues to widen the bands fanbase, Concept Project's listeners not constrained by age, gender, race or religion - there is music here for everyone!

And that includes the melodic rock brigade too, 'Fly' hitting the ground with an air of pop rock beating at its very heart and soul, the band taking a foot hold at the heavier end of the rock genre to deliver an engaging instrumental. Swinging this way and that but remaining within the confines of the rock genre, some may even describe 'Fly' as soft rock - which is exactly where 'Sabrina' comes at you from! The melodic swagger of 'Sabrina' has just the smallest hint of balladry woven into its mellow framework, causing lighters to be held aloft and listeners to sway from side to side. Which is a million light years away from where 'Land Of Flames' stands - firmly and squarely in heavy metal territory featuring the instantly recognisable voice of veteran singer Blaze Bayley. Concept Project are definitely a metal band right now, pounding the ground hard and punching harder than at any other time on the album. So get your neck muscles moving and rock those heads back and forth!

Definitely a whole different listening experience to the bands first album, '2' continues on its merry way with the classic rock tinged 'The Game Of Love' - remember the seventies when rock bands began redefining the rock sound! That's exactly the same vibe I'm getting here, Concept Project not afraid to let their inspirations shine through - 'Black Gold' quickening the pace to become the fastest song on offer. Still more rock than metal, 'Black Gold' proudly stands on the bridge between heavy metal and hard rock, attracting fans of both musical styles into the bands soundscape. '2' is brought to a close with the bombastic 'River Of Madness', definitely coming at you from the heavy metal zone and a perfect opportunity for some serious head banging.

Overall, an engaging mix of rock and metal, Concept Project offer a myriad of styles to attract both rockers and metallers to the bands music.
