Flaming Heart

(single)

Cobra Spell are a hard rock band from the Netherlands formed in 2019, featuring Crypta guitarist Sonia Anubis. The band have released two E.P.'s to date - 'Love Venom' (2020) and 'Anthems Of The Night' (2022). Cobra Spell are now an all female quintet, featuring Kristina Vega on vocals, Angelina Vehera on bass, Noelle dos Anjos on rhythm guitar, Jess on drums, and of course Sonia on lead guitar.

The bands new single 'Flaming Heart' - released in 2022 - sees the new line-up bringing the sound of the eighties to the modern day, with melodies and synthesisers to remind you of a golden age for pop rock. I was fortunate to have been a part of the eighties, growing up as a teenager at a fantastic time for musical evolution. And it's no coincidence that most of my generation still regard the eighties as one of the greatest decades for music.

And with Cobra Spell reviving memories of my tee shirt and denim clad rebellious teenage years listening to the evolving metal and rock scene, the bands new single 'Flaming Heart' is a flaming hot slice of pop come arena rock. When I think back to who I was listening to at the lighter end of my musical spectrum - Journey, Heart, U2, Vixen, and many more glam rockers - 'Flaming Heart' sits right there alongside them all.

Some fans may see the new single as the band going soft - but I see it as evolution and growth, following an essential feeling in life: passion. And as guitarist Sonia says "without passion, I don't know what the meaning of life would be. With Flaming Heart, I want to celebrate the existence of this wonderful feeling and the power it can have".

Overall, an infectious pop rock stroll to head nod and foot tap to, Cobra Spell moving in a rocking new direction.
