Screaming To The World |
||||||
Chromeskull are a heavy/speed metal band from Brazil formed in 2017, releasing their debut E.P. 'Deads Shall Rise' in 2019, and debut full length album 'Screaming To The World' in 2023.
The band first came onto my radar late in 2019 with their blistering debut single 'Screams In The Night', with the ensuing couple of years seeing a major upheaval in the bands line-up! Only guitarist Carlos Leonello remains from 2019, handing the vocal duties over to new singer Aquiles Jeronimo - the band completed by (second) guitarist Leonardo Goncalves, bassist Lucas Soares, and drummer Filipe Oliveira. The new album also sees a shift in the bands sound, from blistering speed to a much more melodic, and traditional metal feel - Chromeskull nodding heavily in the direction of the glorious eighties and the iconic NWOBHM. 'Screaming To The World' is eight songs long in a little under thirty minutes - the opening instrumental 'Intro' a highly atmospheric and crescendo building one minute that's gonna set a sky high anticipation level among listeners. And then boom! 'Night Witch' explodes into life with all the blazing thunder of eighties sounding metal - the incredible amount of energy oozing from 'Night Witch' is simply sublime. And for those of you that have heard the bands 2019 single 'Screams In The Night', do ya see what I mean when I said (earlier) "a shift in the bands sound".
And without dropping a beat, Chromeskull power on with the even more energetic 'Drive Me Insane' - fast paced and head bang-able to the max! And sing a long-able too! The band are pumped up and ready to drive everyone insane with a brand of heavy metal that's simply breath taking! The band are in devastating form, heavying things up for 'Fast N' Wild', a mid tempo thunder stomp of melodic heavy metal. Heads and feet are gonna be moving rhythmically to this one, the chorus sung out loud and smiles a mile wide appearing on the faces of everyone everywhere! The metal on offer here is glorious, the band serving up a sumptuous treat, as we head onto the bridge between metal and rock for 'Love Is For Fools' - one of those genre spanning songs that'll have fans of both heavy metal and hard rock drooling in delight at such an incredible offering. The infectious level since the album began has been sky high, the level now rocketing into outer space!
And picking up the pace, Chromeskull thunder on with the ferociously paced 'Another Day To Fight', planting their collective feet firmly on the monitor. To say the band have been influenced by the iconic NWOBHM may be one of the biggest understatements of the year - 'Another Day To Fight' echoing the legendary movements sound to perfection. Any fan of traditional metal will find this album attractive - no matter your age! For heavy metal is not bound by age - it's for anyone and everyone! And maintaining the electrifying pace, the band roar on with the delightful 'Dog Soldiers', pounding the ground hard, shaking buildings to the ground. And at just under thirty minutes in length, 'Screaming To The World' is a fairly short album, but what it lacks in time, it certainly makes up for with the quality of metal on offer. And remember, one of the most influential albums ever, that rewrote an entire genre of metal, was also under thirty minutes in length! Think back to 1986 when an American four piece released their seminal third album to rain blood on the world! Chromeskull end their debut album with the title song 'Screaming To The World', a thundering slab of infectious traditional heavy metal to bang heads one last time. The whole album has been head bang-able, catchy, and memorable for all the right reasons - I can't wait for the bands next one.
Overall, an infectious gallop of energy driven heavy metal, highly melodic and immensely addictive.
