Regeneration

Cerebellion are a heavy metal band from the USA formed in 2009 and released their debut album in 2010. Their second album, 'Regeneration' was released in 2014. With influences as wide ranging as Metallica, Machine Head and Alice In Chains, 'Regeneration' is a diverse album, full of surprises and twists, yet maintaining a dark undertone.

With only six songs on the album, it is more of a mini album than a full length effort, but what is on offer is still worth a listen. 'All Come To Light' has such a diverse range of musical flavour, it is difficult to place it in just one genre. Fusing deep, dark undertones with acoustic passages and a rumbling rhythm, 'All Come To Light' is catchy, with a sometimes doom metal feel and very good clean vocals. As well as the bands mentioned previously as influences, there is also a Linkin Park, Pantera style in their music too. Razor sharp guitars, slow and heavy guitars, chopping guitars - 'Cold' has all of the above. Melodic and hard edged with powerful vocals, 'Cold' is a continuation of the musical style set by the album opener.

With plenty of percussion, and raking grooves, 'Savior' wanders and weaves, creating a wave of acoustically charged atmospherics mixed with sharp guitar riffs. Melancholic at times, the album takes a sharp turn with 'Nothing Left', opening with an acoustic guitar, vocals that would suit a power ballad and a rhythm that reminds me of a Spanish dance! With yet another sharp turn coming up, does the album suffer from an identity crisis? Maybe, but 'Thin Ice' will please all the heavy metallers out there with its thunderous, galloping pace and rampant guitars, hinting at thrash metal. Hitting the brakes and slowing down, the album closes with the regal sounding 'Forsaken', again full of differing styles as it rocks and rolls gently to a conclusion.

Overall, a wide ranging mix of songs with diverse influences, 'Regeneration' is not genre specific and will surprise and shock many.
