Fire Meets Steel

Cannibal are a heavy metal band from Canada formed in 2020, releasing their debut album 'Fire Meets Steel' later the same year. Only released digitally and on cassette, Steel Shark Records have, in 2023 released the album on vinyl.

Featuring seven songs of all out, traditional heavy metal, Cannibal storm through their debut album at high velocity - in just twenty five blistering minutes! The album bursts into life with the fiery and very fast paced 'The Warlock' - highly head bang-able and thunderously infectious. With such a red hot scorching opener setting the bar extremely high, the remainder of 'Fire Meets Steel' (the album) has a lot to live up to. And with the first six songs all clocking in at under four minutes in length, the album has to do it quickly!

And quickly it does - 'Skulls And Wings' maintaining the crushing momentum of 'The Warlock', albeit with a slightly more melodious approach, resonating with the classic gallop of old school heavy metal, ala legends Iron Maiden. So raise your fists high and punch the air in salute to an opening double salvo of feisty traditional metal - and keep them there for the faster galloping 'Gates Of Hell', and a slight hint of punk-ish raucousness. Not to mention a resemblance to British all girl legends Girlschool - Cannibal delivering a very British sounding heavy metal album from over three and a half thousand miles away...in Canada! With absolutely no time for a breather, the band storm on with 'On Your Feet', picking up the energy level and fizzing on with sizzling sass! What a thundering and quite breathless first half...

...with the second half promising just as much! And in the shape of the title song 'Fire Meets Steel', the band return the iconic gallop of earlier, planting one "foot on the monitor" as is the want of traditional heavy metal - Cannibal maintaining their crusade to deliver barnstorming metal of the most head bang-able kind. Injecting more melodious intent than ever, 'After All' stands firmly and squarely in the middle of the heavy metal genre, drawing inspiration from 'Maiden, Girlschool, and the bands countyrmen Anvil. Bringing the album to a close, Cannibal don't lift their foot off the gas, keeping it firmly pressed to the metal, as 'Catacombs Of Hell' comes to life and motors on at pace, maintaining the albums insane head bang ability.

Overall, a thundering gallop of fast and furious heavy metal, highly head bang-able and thoroughly infectious.
