Stand And Fight |

Burnt Out Wreck are a hard rock band from the UK formed by ex Heavy Pettin' drummer Gary Moat, releasing three albums to date -'Swallow' (2017), 'This Is Hell' (2019), and 'Stand And Fight', released in 2022...
...featuring eleven songs over an hour of swaggering poise and elegance - all wrapped up in a crunchy coating of hard rock bluesy boogie...eat your hearts out Whitesnake, Van Halen, and AC/DC - Burnt Out Wreck are the new kids on the block...and they're here to stay! And rock hard too! Fronted by Heavy Pettin' legend Gary Moat, Burnt Out Wreck are a relentless riff led roller coaster of a hard rocking band that just wanna party! After a difficult couple of years though, Gary is back, standing tall and fighting hard, proving he's no burnt out wreck (sorry mate, been saving that one since 'This Is Hell'). Just take a look at - or rather listen to - album opener 'Big Up Yourself'...a barnstorming start, hitting you right between the eyes and knocking you flat on your fucking back. The energy and force crackle and hiss as 'Big Up Yourself' majestically struts its stuff, drawing you in and never letting you go! The solid down to earth no nonsense honest hard rock is infectious, and is always gonna prove a winner in my eyes.
The title song 'Stand And Fight' has much more of a party anthem feel than the album opener, and a bluesy swagger that is just incredible. The oomph of Burnt Out Wreck's rock is phenomenal, full of weight and punch, and will literally knock you off your feet. I defy anyone to not join in with the chorus and sing along to the "stand and fight" line - it's so infectious! And I bet you're nodding your head too! And tapping your feet! Yea - thought so! Maintaining a bluesy party feel, 'Lion' brings forth touches of the Southern rock style, swaying from side to side while strutting tall and proud. The differing styles across the albums opening triple salvo has been gigantic, the band delving deep into hard rock territory to offer the widest variation possible. The first of three six minute plus songs on offer 'Ain't Done Nothing Wrong', is slower tempo'd than everything heard so far - for the first minute anyway! And then Burnt Out Wreck's signature hard rock blues boogie comes crashing in, and every listener's head and feet will be involuntarily moving in rhythmic synchronicity to the bands music. Simply amazing stuff from an amazing band.
The relentless riff led roller coaster is simply unstoppable - the band storming on with the hardest rocking song heard so far, 'More Than Anything' an up tempo and lively romp of heavy hitting hard rock with oodles of electric energy and fizz! 'More Than Anything' is a boundary breaking song, attracting metal fans to the bands music - and conscripting them into the bands legions of followers. Yes readers, Burnt Out Wreck's music is that powerful! Adopting the feel of a power ballad, 'Pain And Suffering' is a summers day meander of light and breezy rock - a breath of fresh air and a departure from the hard hitting nature of the album so far. A few lighters will be raised high in the air, along with swaying from side to side, but it's the level of emotion that's the outstanding aspect of 'Pain And Suffering'. Simply glorious.
And now for the second and third six minute plus songs. First up is 'Turpentine' - and a vocal performance from Gary that resembles a mix of the legendary Bon Scott (AC/DC) and former Accept singer Udo Dirkschneider. And as for the music - elegance and majesty in abundance! 'Turpentine' a majestic march of bold rock that rises head and shoulders above everything heard so far...not to mention higher than many of the bands peers and contemporaries. You know who you are! The sounds of birds and the ocean leads into 'Blood Sweat And Tears', a hard rocking heavy hitting slab of rock perfection - the swagger projecting an air of staggering confidence, the infectious rhythm gently nodding heads and tapping feet, and the bluesy feel a million times more than Whitesnake, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, and even Lynyrd Skynyrd!
"why don't you wake up" is the immediate opening line to 'Wake Up' - and just imagine having 'Wake Up' as your alarm call in the morning! It'd get you right out of bed in an instant, putting you in such a good mood your friends and family might think you've gone loopy - the feel good factor of 'Wake Up' is so fucking high it's in outer space! What a song and what a feeling - it's more than a feeling, it's an infection! And I'm so happy to be infected! Burnt Out Wreck one of the best hard rocking bands around at the moment. And for the first time the band take flight and power on with the fast paced rocker 'Take It Or Leave It' - and a chance for all those conscripted metallers to head bang. The energy level is through the roof, along with the levels of oomph and pizzazz. What a song. And as the hour nears, so does the final song on offer - but it doesn't feel like an hour has passed! A sign of a great album that is - when you lose all track of time. And 'Stand And Fight' (the album) has been a great album - coming to an end with 'I'm A Loser Too'...the most bluesy and laid back song on the album. It's like a lazy Sunday afternoon relaxing in a pub with a pint, a pie and a peach of a song booming outta the jukebox - "hey barkeep, play it again".
Overall, a barnstorming barrage of bluesy hard rock - heavy hitting and infectious, and one of the most pleasurable listens ever.
