Ruler Of Everything |
||||||
Brainless are a thrash metal band from Germany formed in 1989, releasing three albums to date - 'Brainless World' (1993), 'Reality Hurts' (1999), and 'Ruler Of Everything', released in 2022...
...featuring seven heavy hitting thrashers in a little under thirty minutes! The band had split in 2000, reforming in 2016 with a hunger to thrash harder than ever - original members Dieter Simon (guitar, lead vocals) and Rolf Pohlmann (bass), joined by (newcomers) Joshua Simon (lead guitar) and Nico Fehler (drums) for the new album. An album that is brought to life by the sinister jack hammering crescendo of 'Sniper Alley' - breaking out into a full thrash metal onslaught of the fastest kind...Brainless roaring loud with savagery and ferocity, powering on with the most focused of purpose and intent - the band setting the air alight with a brand of thrash that echoes the American style a lot more than their country's own brutal and highly aggressive nature.
Maintaining the albums electrifying start, 'Master And Slave' storms into sight, scorching the Earth as it hurtles on by. The head bang ability of the opening double salvo has been stunning - mosh pits all around the world going fucking crazy, forming insane walls and circles of death! The band are unrelenting in their savage approach to thrash, 'Sweet Poison' pounding the ground hard, devastating its surroundings with a fiery intent. The pace is breathless, so make sure you take many deep breaths before pressing play on 'Ruler Of Everything'. And talking of pace - where did it go? 'Bare Iron' gliding in on the crest of a serenity more associated with a ballad than a thrash metal song! But not to worry, the band heavying things up - picking up the pace and thundering on at a mosh pit friendly speed. And to be honest, the gear and tempo changes within 'Bare Iron' lead me to suspect a little of the progressive nature of metal at work here.
And as we move on, the album knuckles down for the all out thrash metaller 'Get Away From Me', and a level of ferocity higher than heard so far - the levels of aggression and savagery at an all time high too! Brainless are bombarding the listener with a barrage of thrash that is all consuming and unforgiving, 'Ruler Of Everything' powering on with 'Fake People', featuring a more aggressive and in your face attitude than everything previously heard. The band not quitting the thrash trail for a single second! The album is brought to a close with a re-recorded version of 'Bang Your Head And Dive' - taken from the bands 1993 debut 'Brainless World' - and is a cracking mix of thrash and traditional heavy metal...performed at a blistering speed. One hundred percent head bang-able and infectious to the max, 'Bang Your Head And Dive' is a thundering end to an album of thunderous thrash metal.
Overall, an all out thrash metal attack, 'Ruler Of Everything' is a breathless half hour of head bang ability.
