Beckon E.P. |
||||||
Beckon are a heavy metal band from the UK formed in 2012 citing Pantera, Lamb Of God, Black Label Society, Soilwork and Fear Factory as some of their influences. The bands debut release is the three song self titled E.P. emerging in 2013...
...with the bands above mentioned influences clearly heard across all three songs on offer! 'God Inside' opens the E.P. in fairly brutal fashion with a guitar sound not too dissimilar to Fear Factory and a superb near death growl vocal performance - the aggression oozing outta 'God Inside' is incredible! And combined with pace and power 'God Inside' is an excellent opening song.
And at the other end of the musical scale, 'Another Apocalypse' begins with a slow almost acoustic intro building a tonne of tension and anticipation, before rattling into life and pounding the ground hard with continued aggression and brutality. And what's that? Clean vocals! Yes readers, Beckon deliver a varied vocal performance here, along with a mighty Pantera-esque groove style of metal and a bout of blistering speed too!
Third and final song on the E.P. 'Dirty Ape' is also the longest on offer, clocking in at nearly eight minutes in length, and shows just how diverse the band can be by mixing a number of metal genres together to create a wonderfully constructed aural delight. 'Dirty Ape' features both clean and near death growl vocals as it swings this way and that across every inch of metal territory.
Overall, an impressive release from a band not afraid to display its diverse approach in establishing its own furiously brutal sound.
