Taking The Throne |
||||||
AMMO are a heavy metal band from Canada formed in 2014, releasing the single 'Too Metal For Metal' in 2016, and the five song E.P. 'Taking The Throne' in 2019.
Featuring a sound that was prominent during the eighties NWOBHM evolution, AMMO take their inspiration from bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Grim Reaper - all leading lights in the genre of traditional heavy metal. With galloping rhythms and a "foot on the monitor" style, AMMO launch their E.P. with the blazing 'Tombstone City'. Flying out of the blocks like a champion sprinter, 'Tombstone City' is full of urgency and purpose, as it hurtles along at break neck speed. This is classic, traditional heavy metal as it should sound.
'Into Death' maintains the E.P.'s high velocity, bringing a touch of the melodic to it also. The "foot on the monitor" galloping style of heavy metal is a glorious sound - and AMMO have got it mastered. Exponents of the NWOBHM would be well proud of these Canadian metallers. Title song 'Taking The Throne' is a more meaty offering, with beefed up rhythms delivering a much heavier sound than the opening two songs. The head bang ability is off the scale, neck muscles stretched to their limits as the E.P. ferociously marches on.
Suddenly the pace of the E.P. is increased massively, as the 'Hammer' hammers down with a brutality not heard so far. Pounding like a jack hammer smashing concrete, 'Hammer' is an aggressive assault on the senses that just oozes exhilaration. The final song is a re-recorded version of the bands 2016 single 'Too Metal For Metal'. The traditional gallop of the NWOBHM drives 'Too Metal For Metal', along with its massive melodic edge and highly anthemic chant style chorus.
Overall, a ferocious gallop of traditional heavy metal that is exciting and breathless in equal measures,
