Adrenaline Shot E.P. |
||||||
Amken are a thrash metal band from Greece formed in 2011 who released their debut E.P. in 2014.
'Adrenaline Shot' opens the E.P. in true, classic sounding thrash metal style. With a sound resembling (early) Exodus, 'Adrenaline Shot' is rough and tough with gruff, aggressive vocals. Blistering guitars screech and the rhythm section thunders at such a high pace, you will most likely head bang your head right off your shoulders. 'God's Asleep' is the title of the second song and after just one listen, believe me when I say "God will not be asleep after this". A bit of a slow burner, 'God's Asleep' builds tension with crackling, buzzing guitars and a throaty growl of a vocal delivery. Pace is kept in check as 'God's Asleep' stomps majestically at a mid tempo, very heavy pace.
Pace quickens as 'Nightmares' flies like a rocket launched into orbit. Raucous and frenetic, it romps and stomps, mercilessly crushing anyone and anything in its path. Will the song give you nightmares? Maybe, but I doubt it. The guitar work is phenomenal, the vocals gruff and the rhythm chugs endlessly. The E.P. ends with the chaotic rush 'Zombie Pets'. Buzzsaw style guitar riffs over a thunderous back line will keep your head banging long after the song has ended. With a full length album in the pipeline for a 2016 release, this debut E.P. is a mouth watering appetiser.
Overall, raucous, frenetic and chaotic thrash metal in a similar style to (early) Exodus, this debut E.P. is a breath taking blast.
