Damnation

Aerodyne are a heavy metal band from Sweden, formed in 2016, releasing their debut album 'Breaking Free' in 2017. The band deliver a no nonsense brand of fierce and furious, traditional heavy metal. And with their sophomore album 'Damnation' (a 2019 release), Aerodyne have upped the ante, added more bite, and are hitting even harder than their debut release.

You know those rare albums that come along, sweeping you off your feet, making you realise just why you fell in love with heavy metal? 'Damnation' by Aerodyne is one such album. It's breath taking, phenomenally infectious, and a bloody good head bang able experience. From the moment the one minute intro 'Hellsiah' launches into its crescendo building excitement, you just know something special is coming...nine songs in forty five furious minutes, exhilaration kicking and screaming from everywhere. 'Out For Blood' is a savage barrage of urgency, a fierce "foot on the monitor" gallop that will have heads banging very hard. The glorious sound of traditional heavy metal has never sounded so good, as Aerodyne power on with 'Kick It Down'. More energy, more bombast, and more thrilling than the opening song, 'Kick It Down' is a breathless storm of full on and intense heavy metal. The band may be from Sweden, more famous for hard rock exponents, but Aerodyne firmly toe the line of the classic sound of British heavy metal.

Majestic and magnificent, 'March Davai' explodes into life, portraying the mid tempo anthemic stomp of British icons Saxon. 'March Davai' is a regal march of bombastic riffs and foot stomping rhythms. Pace and power return in emphatic fashion with 'Murder In The Rye' echoing the classic buzz sounding guitars of the NWOBHM. Played at a fiery "foot on the monitor" pace, 'Murder In The Rye' is addictive, infectious and one of the best songs the album has to offer. Hell, all the songs on the album could be called the best. Imagine a supergroup made from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Saxon - that's exactly what Aerodyne are. 'Under The Black Veil' is an up tempo savage barrage of catchy heavy metal, complete with a chant style chorus to get the audience at live shows singing, no, screaming along.

Title song 'Damnation' oozes atmosphere, tension and demands anthem status. 'Damnation' is a mid tempo, melodic masterstroke of fists punching the air in delight. A heart skips a beat 'cause I'm in love moment. Simply wow. And the wow moments continue, as the ferocious 'Kill Or Be Killed' forges ahead at break neck speed. The fastest song on the album, 'Kill Or Be Killed' is my favourite song. Screeching guitars, galloping rhythms, clean vocals, a melodic edge, and a sing a long chorus - everything traditional heavy metal is known for, and what I grew up listening to, and fell in love with. The mid tempo anthemic style is back with a bang, 'The Nihilist' hits harder than a heavyweight boxing champion, kicks harder than a MMA world champion, and will flatten you like a steam roller flattens a newly laid stretch of tarmac. And to the final song, which has the title of a ballad - 'Love Eternal'. As it gets underway it also sounds like a ballad, but thankfully after just thirty three seconds, 'Love Eternal' shows its true colours as a thunderous rampage of classic sounding "foot on the monitor" traditional heavy metal. Aerodyne have delivered one of the greatest albums of 2019, setting alight the worldwide heavy metal scene.

Overall, an exhilarating and highly exciting barrage of heavy metal, intense and intoxicating, all delivered at a fast pace.
