Black Dog's Serenade E.P.

Acrolysis are a heavy metal band from Australia formed in 2017, with their debut release the five song E.P. 'Black Dog's Serenade', released in 2019.

Featuring five songs across an incredible thirty minutes, Acrolysis launch their debut release with the high tempo, highly energetic "foot on the monitor" style of 'I Should Have Known'. Displaying a traditional heavy metal sound that was pioneered during the glorious eighties, the guitars pay homage to the NWOBHM with their buzz style riffing. Acrolysis may be on the other side of the planet from where heavy metal was born, but their sound definitely has its roots in the UK.

'One Trick Pony' has a cracking crescendo building intro that creates an atmosphere of tension, before settling down into a heavy foot stomp, with more glorious riffing associated with the NWOBHM. And, if you listen really close, a hint of the nineties "black album" era of American thrash metal icons Metallica. At eight minutes in length 'Where Has Your God Gone Now' is an epic slow tempo foot stomp, full of atmosphere and a remote hint of the doom style riffing that British legends Black Sabbath gave the world.

'Shadows Of Gold' chimes in at seven minutes in length and is much more mellow and ballad like than what has gone before. It's time to raise your lighters high in the air and sway from side to side as 'Shadows Of Gold' ambles on its way. The final song 'Fifty Four' is actually an instrumental, and carries on the vibe set by 'Shadows Of Gold' albeit a bit heavier, with a massive hint at the sound of Black Sabbath.

Overall, a punchy and big riffing NWOBHM inspired romp, catchy and infectious, Acrolysis have impressed with their debut effort.
